John Scott ready to make grade in San Pasqual

Saturday's 7th race (3:35pm PT) from Santa Anita Park is the Grade II San Pasqual Stakes for 4-year-olds and up traveling a mile and a sixteenth on the main track.

#5 John Scott (3-1) is fresh and ready to break down the graded door. He exits less than ideal trips in the Cal Cup Classic and BC Dirt Mile and deserves another chance on conventional dirt. The synthetic lover has been stabled here since September and Espinoza has options with the versatile sort.

#6 Coil (2-1) owns the best overall numbers and handles two turns. The versatile son of Point Given won the G1 SA Sprint Championship here.

#4 Ultimate Eagle (5-2) owns dangerous early foot and is an obvious prominent throughout threat on his best day. He exits a game place finish in his needed G2 Citation turf return and it will be interesting to see if he moves forward or bounces on the surface switch. He romped in the G2 Strub here last February.

The Plays:

$18 to win #5

$6 Exacta 5/4-6 ($12)

This is a terrible betting race offering no value. But for what it's worth...Baffert has two horses here that are both contenders. He constantly pulls this ploy by sending the obvious horse to the front to take out the speed and come behind with the price horse to win and fool the crowd. I, for one, do not play his game anymore. Bet if you must....not me...good luck!!!

field too small to make much of a real wager

I have respected Slam's handicapping perspectives since our BC chat. And, I have respected Jarrod's handicapping perspective ever since reading these, see that he has cashed OVER and OVER again. It is settled, I think based on my persepctive, and your guy's opinion, I am gonna play heavy here, I think.

Interesting it looks like the 3 of us are on somewhat the same page.
