Saturday's 7th race (3:36pm PT) from Santa Anita Park is the $75,000 Eddie Logan Stakes for 3-year-olds traveling a flat mile on the turf course (rail at 8 feet).

#3 Smart Ellis (8-1) showed nothing in his synthetic sprint bow but sprung to life over the Del Mar weeds second time out. He found trouble in a poor G3 Bourbon effort at Keeneland when last seen Oct 9. I like his stamina building works for this including sharp move in company with Rumor on Christmas Day. Smarty Jones is a solid grass sire and dam has tossed four turf winners so it was hardly surprising to see him graduate on the sod.

#8 Daddy Nose Best (9-5) is getting better for Asmussen and exits a visually impressive entry level score under the Twin Spires. He has plenty of turf route experience and will be finishing under Leparoux.

#5 Stoney Fleece (5-2) is wheeled back quickly after disappointing as the favorite in a CA-bred dirt sprint Stakes on opening day. He is 2-for-2 on turf and can go better but Rosario abandons for #4 Champions Gate (9-2). The latter exits a turf sprint wire job and fired a local turf bullet Dec 23.

#1 Sheer Talent (8-1) is out of 16% first grass sire Wildcat Heir. He owns competitive synthetic sprint numbers and Gomez got acquainted with him last out.

The Plays:

$24 to win #3
$1 Trifecta Key 3/1-4-5-8 ($12)
$1 Trifecta 1-3-4-5/8/1-3-4-5 ($12)
$1 Trifecta 3-4-5-8/3-4-5-8/1 ($12)
