Friday's 5th race (3:06pm PT) from Santa Anita Park is an Optional Claiming event for fillies and mares traveling a flat mile on the main track.

#5 Miss Radiance (4-1) is bred to go this far and might be best on conventional dirt. She hooked the likes of Zazu in her first two synthetic sprint outings before smartly graduating off an extended layoff in a local sprint over next out winner and today's rival #4 Transgression (9-2) here Oct 16. She exits an even 4th in a Cushion Track sprint off a short rest and is training well for this engagement (stabled at Santa Anita).

#8 Spirit Seeker (9-5) has cruised in 4 of her last 5 conventional dirt routes including a pair of local flat mile wins in October under today's pilot Bejarano. The obvious prominent throughout player won't offer much value.

#3 Lofty Ambition (9-2) has shown ability routing/sprinting on synthetic and turf. She hails from a profitable low profile barn and Talamo has options with the versatile sort.

The Plays:

$18 to win #5
$1 Trifecta Key 5/3-4-8 ($6)
$1 Trifecta 3-4-8/5/3-4-8 ($6)

Glad you got to watch a few races today, overskate27. Miss Radiance ran well after stumbling at the start and I would consider playing her back if she offers value.

I'm off today and was watching a few SA races online. I read your post before the race and it made a lot of sense. I have always been a class handicapper and the fact this filly ran with the top filly Zazu made me take notice right away. She was up on her toes in the paddock and looked ready to run. I thought the 4 looked good also. Oddly enough, I thought the winner # 8 looked sluggish. LOL. I love that betting angle, as so many times the horse we key has bad race luck ( as in this case) or are is beaten for first by another contender we figured in the race. Glad you caught the tri with Miss Radiance in the 2 spot.

Miss Radiance got up for the place behind the fav and I managed to eke out a small profit in the tri.

That track is really playing early so between the extremes of the early 8 and the late 2, the three fits the bill to be in between them. Building a trifecta from that baiss

also the 8 could be out winging all on its own and the going off form may not matter

the 8 here is ever so slightly going off form and if the two can adapt to the main track???? that one is long gone here. At best the 5 might be third or fourth, at best as than animal has never seen the pace pressure that many in this have both met, and overcome.

Thanks, icyhotboo. I have a notebook full of exotic wagering strategies and will try to implement more in my 2012 plays of the day.

I like your wagering strategies as much if not more than your handicapping ability as in the majority of times it puts one in the position of winning a decent amount with a saver. I especially like the key show tri wheel which I never tried until I saw you do it consistently. I still have to look at this as I have a preference for handicapping speed favoring tracks as for me it seems to play out more consistently than the slower tracks. Of course much more it taken into consideration than speed. I just love the exotics, low input high take out even with the lower percentage.GL on your bet.
