Monday's 8th race (3:52pm PT) from Santa Anita Park is the Grade 2 Sir Beaufort for 3-year-olds traveling a flat mile on the turf course.
#4 Mr. Commons (9-5) has yet to win a Graded race but that should all change in this spot. The highly regarded son of Artie Schiller has been knocking on the door against much tougher older rivals (Jeranimo, Caracortado) recently and was hardly disgraced in the G1 BC Mile last time. He easily captured both turf starts against 3-year-old friends and appears ready to fire a big shot off a short rest.
#6 Irish Art (10-1) could not handle the ten furlong trip in the G1 Hollywood Derby Nov 27. He looked great winning down the dip in his prior start and Bejarano got to know him last time. This distance is well within his grasp and he could go much better at square odds.
#8 Ultimate Eagle (3-1) is worth trying to topple on the win end. Granted, he has won four straight and his numbers are going the right way, but he meets other speed (Comma to the Top, Thirtyfirststreet) and was thrown into this spot at the last minute. All four turf wins were accomplished in longer events and he might find this flat mile trip a tad sharp.
