Thursday's 8th race (4:36pm PT) from Santa Anita Park is a $40,000 Maiden Claiming event for 4-year-olds and up dashing six furlongs on the main track.
#4 Baron Von Red (6-1) was competitive in both Maiden Claiming starts. His connections are easy to like and the fresh horse is training well for this. Maybe blinkers will make all the difference.

#3 Father Pabst (9-2) showed speed in two starts versus better and Cerin excels with this type of dropper.
#8 Relentless Heat (4-1) was nostrilized in his lone conventional dirt Maiden Claiming attempt. Bejarano does business with this outfit.
#5 Bull Ring (7-2) miss by a nose in his career bow at this level across town. The Baffert trainee is a fresh tactical threat.
#1 Royal Meridian (9-2) is a 5yo gelding out of Street Cry making his career bow for Canani. He lands the intimidating rail but has flashed ability in the a.m.
