Thursday's 5th race (3:06pm PT) from Santa Anita Park is a $25,000 claiming heat for fillies and mares traveling one mile on the turf course (rail at 30 feet).

#5 Secret Cove (4-1) shows up in a new barn (Kitchingman) following a pair of disappointing Del Mar efforts for Ted West. The 3-time local winner likes to pounce from midpack and gets in light with competent apprentice Orozco.

#3 Gittel (5-1) is winless on turf (11 starts) but was less than a length behind my top at this course/distance earlier this year. Gutierrez is a much improved grass rider.

#1 Highly Rated (3-1) is the one to catch from the hedge under Bejarano. She makes her first start in more than ten months and speed has been much better at this trip recently.

The Plays:

$18 to win #5

$3 Exacta 5/1-3 ($6)

$3 Exacta 1-3/5 ($6)

I like the pick today. However, the price may not be right. Contenders before scratches: #5, 9, 1, 7. The #9 Lilly's Perfect (8/5) may be vulnerable due to having the wrong running style. Therefore, go to "class on the grass", #5 Secret Cove (4/1). Bet #5 to win at 4/1 or better. Exacta 5/all. Trifecta...5/9, 1, 7, 2/all. Good luck!!!
