POST TIME 3:22 PM EDT -- PARX Racing has drawn a quality field for the
Greenwood Cup to be run a 1 1/2 miles on the dirt. This is a key tune
up and prep for those preparing for a run in the Breeder's Cup
Marathon. Ten will go postward and some new and old favorites like
Birdrun, Ponzi Scheme, A.U. Miner, Ron the Greek and Schoolyard Dreams
will be battling it out. Frontrunning,
#3 Birdrun,
will be the chalk and deservedly so off that "made it look easy"
wire-to-wire victory in the Brooklyn Handicap going today's 1 1/2 mile
distance making him the only one in the field that has won a Grade 2
stakes race. He'll be pressed by the venerable and always determined,
#9 Chirac.
to his outside throughout generating a pace that will be below par but
fair. Tucking in comfortably behind those two will be my top choice,
#8 Ponzi Scheme.
This improving four year-old gelding is coming into this race looking
to make it four wins in a row. Normally, I would shy away from this
type expecting a bit of a regression but he has done things rather
easily and he has had good breaks between efforts.
#9 Chirac
will be tough to shake off but in the end but I believe he'll start
sputtering while still finishing ahead of most of the field. It will be
fun to watch
#7 Ron The Greek. He'll be fastest of all coming down the stretch and an on-the-board finish at a price is certainly within reach.
