The "Run for the Black-Eyed Susans" occurs tomorrow afternoon.  About half of the field ran in the Kentucky Derby and there are some new faces trying to burst onto the scene.  I was pretty successful with my Kentucky Derby picks (My top 4 all finished in the Top 5 of a 20 horse field), so I figured I'd share with you how I see the Preakness going down.

Horses that don't have a shot

#2 Teeth of the Dog - Yes he ran well with an extremely hot pace in the Wood Memorial (passing a couple of tired horses to finish 3rd), however, outside of that he's hasn't been really running at "elite" levels.  I'll pass.

#3 Pretension - Pace is just going to be too hot for this horse.  The one race he ran fast to start he tired badly and won't have a clear path to close vs these.

#4 Zetterholm - HUGE step-up in class and has never ran past 1 mile.  Just a little too much going against him.

#10 Optimizer - Has finished out of the money 4 of his last 5 races and not exactly burning up times, why do his owners keep throwing entry fees away?

#11 Cozzetti - Good horse, just not great.  11th PP doesn't help either.

Good horses that'll just miss

#1 Tiger Walk - Has a tough time keeping up with hot paces in the early part of the race and just don't think he has the closing kick to track down the elite horses in this race.

#8 Daddy Nose Best - Just a hair to slow to finish in the money... 5th place?

Top Contenders

#5 Went the Day Well - Very versitle running style, closed very strong in the Derby, the smaller field will allow more options come the final stretch.

#6 Creative Cause - I question the heart/courage of this horse, but he's still probably the most talented of the field.  Always runs strong, just have to watch that last 200 yards to see if the horse wants to win or not.

#7 Bodemeister - Will set the pace like in the Derby and will have a lot of pressure down the stretch... haven't seen him win a duel- unless he draws away it looks like a very respectable 2nd.

#9 I'll Have Another - Horse just continues to impress me.  Has perfected stalking the pace setters, seems to turn it on at the right time, and hey, I want to see a Triple Crown sometime in my life... I'll have another win please.

Final Finish Prediction:

9 - 7 - 5 - 6

$1 Exacta - 7,9 / 5,6,7,8,9 = $8

0.50 Trifecta Box 5,6,7,9 = $12
