Saturday's 7th race (3:25pm EST) at Laurel Park on paper appears to be short on speed, with one exception... Chac Mool, especially on a dirt oval that seemed to be kind to speed on Friday afternoon.

#8 Chac Mool (7-2) makes his first start after being claimed for $10k (4th by 5 1/2) by trainer Jay Bernardini (17% in '12), but just 1 for 31 at Laurel Park. That 6f race was filled with early speed, so his 4th place finish was very credible for a runner used to going only 5f.  This 5-year-old gelded son of Yes It's True is always quick from the gate. IF jockey Richard Monterrey can harness his speed/energy in the early going, he just might be able to win for the first time in 10 tries going 6 furlongs.

The Play: $10 WIN #8 and $20 PLACE #8

Selections for all 9 races on the Laurel Park on Saturday (Jan. 5th) card, including BEST BET and LONGSHOT PLAY of the Day, see Maryland's Own GQ

5/2/1 no ones a winner...the other pace horse got there

no wins in 10 tries at the distance? Read Quirin's Winning at the Races: Computer Discoveries in Thoroughbred Handicapping to find out why that is not a good thing, at all.....Would need at least 6 to 8/1 on this one

contenders 1 My Golden Opinion 4 Peter's Creek 2 No Shenanigans

8 and 5 do appear to be the pacesetters but Laurel tends to run late, MOST of the time
