Artic North drops into winning spot at Santa Anita

Thursday's 7th race (4:05pm PT) from Santa Anita Park is an Optional Claiming event for 4-year-olds and up traveling a mile and an eighth on the turf course (rail at 30 feet).

#3 Artic North (4-1) is fresh and drops out of the graded ranks. He owns a win at this course/distance under today's rider Talamo and can pounce on these at a hint of a price.

Play Thursday’s Santa Anita Park games at DerbyWars.com.

#8 Power Ped (4-1) exits a smart local entry level win and was a 1/2 length behind my top in a Del Mar maiden race at this distance. Mike Smith hops aboard and he's a solid threat if able to run two alike.

#1 Joelito (3-1) exits a rallying place finish in a downhill turf sprint. Nakatani knows the versatile sort now and he graduated in a local turf route. He must answer the 9f question but should sit a decent ground saving prominent throughout trip from the cozy rail.

#4 Niagara Falls (6-1) makes his first start in almost 9 months. Bejarano ends up here and he showed promise in BHP turf routes last year.

The Plays:

$16 to win #3

$6 Exacta Box 3-8 ($12)

$3 Exacta 3-8/1-4 ($12)

The good DRF Race of the Day. Contenders before scratches: #3, 4, 6, 2, 7. The favorite #1 Joelito (Nakatani/Hollendorfer) is legitimate, and is therefore the horse to beat. However, I don't like the horse in this race. The #3 Arctic North is also in fine form and will be tough in this race. However, my choice is the #6 Monastic (9/2) Stevens/Proctor. Horse has both the best early speed and turn time. Will be out front the entire trip and will coast home past the final turn. Bet #6 to win. Exactas: 6/ 2, 3, 4, 5(late speed) and reverse. Good luck!!!
2 and 6 head out front and then 5,3,4 close to try and catch them. Odds board will tell the tale of the wager(s).
