Saturday's 8th race (4:40pm PT) from Golden Gate Fields is the Grade III El Camino Real Derby for 3-year-olds traveling nine furlongs on Tapeta footing.

#8 Carving (3-1) won a two turn synthetic Stakes affair (Real Quiet) at BHP in December and he sat a nice tactical trip that day. He just ran around the track in a 6th of 11 effort when last seen in the G1 CashCall Futurity and 4th place finisher Oxbow came out of that one to nab the G3 Lecomte. Baffert's fresh colt shows up in a softer spot today and could fall into the right stalking trip under new pilot Espinoza.

#5 Zeewat (5-2) exits back-to-back local Stakes route wins and he sat a nice tactical trip in the Cal Derby last out. I would not be surprised if he ended up the post time favorite for the always productive Baze-Hollendorfer team.

#4 Manando (9-5) is the Baffert favorite. He's the likely target under Gryder the rider but #1 Wildcat Moon (6-1) figures to be on his heels throughout from the rail. This race sets up for a stalk and pounce type based on the paper race scenario.

The Plays:

$18 to win #8

$6 Exacta Box 5-8 ($12)
