Sunday's 8th race from Emerald Downs is the G3 Longacres Mile for 3-year-olds and up traveling a flat mile on the main track.

#9 Teide (6-1) has uncorked triple digit Final Time Ratings in all three Hastings Park starts this year. The fresh, versatile gelding rallied to finish a close-up 3rd in this event last year and is just as good if not better this time around.

#8 Gallant Son (5-2) is 4-for-5 over the local main track and he won a Graded turf route at Hollywood Park earlier this year. He prepped for this with a rallying show finish over the Del Mar weeds and sports a local bullet for a 22% turf/dirt barn (Lucarelli).

#7 Almost Time (15-1) beat his stablemate Teide in June and has captured half of his fourteen starts. He appears best at 6.5 flruongs but has won routing before and could surprise at square odds.

#5 Noosa Beach (3-1) is a neck away from four Stakes wins at the current stand. He figures in the thick of things throughout for quality connections.

Defending champ #11 Assessment (5-1) has been inconsistent this season but the Mile is the race he has been waiting for. He sports a six furlong bullet for this and will be finishing.

The Plays: $16 to win #9, $1 Trifecta 8-9/5-7-8-9-11/5-7-8-9-11 ($24)

This one was lost at the gate as Teide, very uncharacteristically, would not load. The track was playing early all day so that negated the late late late run of Gallant Son, and, Almost Time who did manage a fourth. Noosa was outrun to the first turn but not down the lane as the public choice. Good for the locals.

The team of Burj Dubai, Almost Time and Teide (ALL owned by Swift Thoroughbreds) have been pointed to this race all year. That "owner entry" has the capacity to run them off their feet early (Burj and Teide) and come running later (Almost Time and Teide)....The only other true late mover, biased by Pro Ride, Gallant Son would he to close a ton of ground to catch them....Noosa will be outrun. The rider on their big horse, Chad Hoverson, is as professional a ride as I have ever seen having been the pilot of previous Canadian Horse of the year Traveling Victor. Dino Condellinios is very high on all of them.
