Wednesday's 7th race (5:00PM PT) from Del Mar is the $100,000 Graduation Stakes for state bred or sired 2-year-olds traveling five and one-half furlongs on Polytrack.
#7 Bench Points (9-2) looked like an experienced horse when he rallied from off the pace to win his five furlong Hollywood bow June 5. The Benchmark-Free House gelding hails from a competent low profile barn and has has plenty of time to recover from his sharp debut. He gets pace to chase and will be finishing under Bejarano.
#11 Stormin Rae (4-1) set the pace and finished second behind my top pick in his career debut and easily graduated in wire job fashion July 11. He could be the speed of the speed and note that 85% of the races at this distance has been won by early-pressing types (13-race sample).
#8 Woodmans Luck (5-1) was clearly second best behind Stormin Rae last time and looms a late-running threat for the 25% Talamo/Puype team. He is still a Maiden.
#9 Lucky Mr. K (7-2) easily captured his Cushion Track bow and rallied for the place after a slow start in a Pleasanton Stakes last time. Same connections as G1 Bing Crosby winner Smiling Tiger.
The Plays: $18 to win #7, $1 Trifecta 7-11/7-8-9-11/7-8-9-11 ($12) - analysis by Jarrod Horak
