Let's Go Cheyenne might get brave at Del Mar

Friday's 6th race (6:30pm PT) from Del Mar is the $85,000 CTT & TOC Handicap for fillies and mares traveling eleven furlongs on the turf course (rail at 14 feet).

#4 Let's Go Cheyenne (3-1) carved out above par splits and just failed to last in an 8.5f Optional Claiming turf affair at BHP May 3. She has fired Trifecta shots in six straight turf routes and won her longest race to date (9f) in April. I am not sure if she wants to go this far but she will take them as far as she can under regular pilot Talamo. I love her stamina building workout pattern and Cerin is enjoying a productive meet.

Which Candys were those, tv?

one foregets they don't really run on a grass course but is more akin to a putting green where the front end has more of a shot. Just look at all those Candy's who fell apart when moved to real turf courses.

Thanks, cognibene and rafirox. I thought that was excellent value considering the circumstances. Her April 5 9f race was the representative pace line. She had a balanced speed attack that day and her stamina building works were key to handling 11f.

Wow, you know how to pick horses. Nice job.

Congratulations again Jarrod! We were wrong and not afraid to admit it. It went just as you said. The horse got an easy lead and got brave and didn't stop like we thought. Not much value, but a win is a win! Good handicapping...keep picking!

I'll take the generous $8.80 win price. That was as easy as it looked on paper.

DISTRIBUTION of velocity is far more important than final time, by a mile perhaps!

need to leads are HORRIBLE bets on the majority of grass courses
travel_vic | 8/24/2012 2:39 PM |  - Re: Let's Go Cheyenne might ...
#4 Horse is a legitamate contender for a "need to lead" horse with good connections (respect) good works and speed figures. However, vic is right...11f is an awful long way to try to steal the race, and not sure this horse wants to go this long. I'm inclined to go with a horse that has a significant pace advantage (turn time/mid/total) trifecta...and will be a price with the meets leading rider aboard #5 Lady Aspen (6/1). Good luck!!!
cognibene | 8/24/2012 2:16 PM |  - Re: Let's Go Cheyenne might ...
At this distance it is all about a mid to late move, BUT alone on the lead still is a good method to lull the field to sleep. The pace setter here will need every trick in the book to remain out far enough that the field cannot catch up late. The 4 here has some feeble positional speed but has nothing like the big late moves of 3 5 and 7.....On paper it is too close to bet, but then the crowd often makes big mistakes.
