Sunday's 9th race (5:30PM PT) from Del Mar is the G2 John C Mabee Stakes for fillies and mares traveling nine furlongs on the turf.
#7 Gozzip Girl (7-2) has struggled to find her rhythm this year. She stumbled and dumped her rider in 2010 bow. After that she scratched from a 4th of July event at Monmouth and exits an even 4th in a Graded marathon at Delaware. Marty Wolfson has her now and he's an impressive 39% with new additions to his barn. The 4yo daughter of Dynaformer is a 2-time Graded winner at this distance and I like her running style versatility. Leparoux climbs aboard and she could go much better at a hint of a price.
#4 Gotta Have Her (3-1) got back on the beam in a Graded Hollywood route July 3. She enjoys the local weeds and finished a close 3rd in this event last year. Note that she is 0-for-3 at this distance.
#1 Wasted Tears (5-2) is a turf win machine and the sharp mare should make her presence felt early and often for a sharp low profile conditioner. She has never tried nine furlongs.
