Wednesday's 7th race (5:10pm PT) from Del Mar is the $90,000 Green Flash Handicap for 3-year-olds and up dashing five furlongs on the turf course.

#8 Wiredfortwotwenty (7-2) looms an outside early-pressing threat on the surface switch. He exits a sharp local Polytrack sprint score off the shelf and captured his turf sprint start here.

Play Wednesday’s Del Mar games at DerbyWars.com.

#4 Distinctiv Passion (5-2) exits a course/distance wire job under aggressive pilot Maldonado. He looks like the speed of the speed but won't offer much value.

#5 Strong Wind (6-1) looked good winning a local Optional Claiming turf sprint under today's pilot Stevens Aug. 1. He figures to stalk the early runners.

#7 Boat Trip (7-2) is a talented turf runner with a nice late kick but patient runners have not been winning local turf sprints.

The Plays:

$18 to win #8

$6 Quinella 4-8

$1 Trifecta Key 8/4-5-7 ($6)

4 out of 10 means BIAS to you? Wow, you really need to come east and see what real bias is, how quickly it comes and goes, and how it realtes heavily on the weather.
BIAS is a lot more that positional.
BRIS! no wonder you were mis-informed.
Distinctiv Passion wired the field but was DQ'd and placed 3rd for drifting out and costing Strong Wind a better placing. Sirocco Strike was placed 1st and Strong Wind was moved to 2nd. As for the speed bias question, according to track profile stats from 5 furlong turf races at Del Mar (courtesy of BRIS), 4 of the 10 turf races at 5f (7/17 thru 8/11) were captured in wire-to-wire fashion. 9 of the 10 winners were less than a length back at the 1st and 2nd call.

how can you have a speed bias in a sprint? How would you know?
Race appears to have many contenders. But looking deeper narrows it down a bit. Analysis always starts with evaluation of the favorite, #4 Distinctiv Passion (5/2)...may be vulnerable due to 3SL and contentious last races. Contenders for me are: #4, 8, 3 and 1. And I think you have it right Jarrod...#8 Wiredfortwotwenty (7/2) will probably take them wire to wire, Bet #8 to win. Exacta...8/all. Tri...8/4, 3, 1, 5/all. Good luck!!!
