Wednesday's 7th race (5:05pm PT) from Del Mar is the $90,000 Green Flash for 3-year-olds and up dashing five furlongs on Polytrack.

#4 Wine Police (7-2) did not care for turf here July 18. He raced twice on Polytrack here last summer, an Optional Claiming win at 6f and a rallying 4th in the G2 Pat O'Brien at 7f. Trujillo and Miller click together and he can bounce back on the surface switch.

#2 Merit Man (3-1) desperately needed his last (even 4th) in the same turf sprint my top exits, and the place finisher from that heat came back to score here. He graduated in his 2012 Polytrack bow here at 5.5f.

#5 Caracortado (2-1) has been plagued by foot problems and will wear bar shoes for this. The lightly raced 7yo gelding is 4-for-6 on all-weather footing and can inhale these on his best day. Bejarano rides him well.

The Plays:

$18 to win #4

$8 Quinella 2-4

$4 Quinella 4-5

Reality not emotion and added the experience of over 4 years has suggested that bar shoes and healthy feet do not go together. Simple as that, no hate no like no emotion.

Bar shoes. Every once in a while you get a Kinsale King or somebody that can win stakes with crappy feet, but having their feet held together with metal across the bottom would be no one's idea of ideal. plus, anyway, old, coming back from a very long time away, first race on the surface. The hill awaits the old guy.

* About Wine Police, and this may sound like "pretty-pony, girl talk", if his coat is gorgeously bright today, which it has not been for at least three races, he is worth a look. But, I had to say no, preliminarily. Went with speedies and that very good turf miler.

Before scratchs: #4, 1, 2, 5. Prefer speed at a price, #1 Remind mee (8/1). Good luck!!!

So YOUR probability of Wine Police winning is almost 50/50, he's 7/2 on the morning line, and you consider that a "waste of time"... that's stupifying.
