Thursday's 6th race (4:30PM PT) from Del Mar is an Optional Claiming event for state bred or sired fillies and mares dashing six furlongs on Polytrack.

#6 Kaylie's Joy (3-1) has captured 3 of her last 5 synthetic sprint starts and seemingly holds tactical advantage in this spot. She confidently scurries up the ladder off the Hess claim and should be dealt with early and often under Bejarano.

#5 Lazered (5-1) made a middle move before tiring in a local $100,000 extended sprint Stakes event July 31. She seems better routing on turf but is back with Optional Claiming friends and reunites with winning pilot Quinonez.

The Plays: $18 to win #6, $6 Quinella 5-6, $1 Trifecta 6/ALL/5 ($6) - analysis by Jarrod Horak

This is one of those races that is difficult since MOST of the field is going off form and a few are returning from layoffs. Case in point in this is 6 Kaylie's Joy, who has gone steadily downhill from a high performance 6 races back at Anita and has never repeated that since....Energy distribution wise, IF FIT, that one would be a player here, BUT IF the 8 can run back ANYWHERE close to its Golden Gate form, that one gets the lead and the 7 will be a strong late mover on this field, BOTH at some good odds....and an outside, consideration to the rail horse here......Confusing contest that could go many ways.
