Friday's 5th race (6:00pm PT) from Del Mar is an Optional Claiming affair for fillies and mares traveling one mile on Polytrack.

#4 Heat Du Jour (7-2) makes her second start off the Hollendorfer claim (30% 2nd off the claim). She rallied for the place in a downhill turf sprint at Santa Anita June 26 and her last two wins were around two turns (turf). Mike Smith (5-for-11 with Hollendorfer recently) sticks and she tries all-weather footing for the first time.

#8 Lady Asano (5-2) closed strongly from off the pace in a sharp win here last summer. She has not won since but can improve 3rd off the shelf under Bejarano.

#7 Master the Blues (9-2) has a nose for the wire and sports a trio of synthetic wins (Presque Isle). The sharp mare seeks a four-bagger and figures a pace player for the winning Kent D-Hess team.

Interesting race. Contenders before scratches: #7, 3, 8, 1. The favorite #8 Lady Asano (5/2) is legitimate and the horse to beat. The interesting horse here is the shipper from PID #7 Master the Blues (9/2). This is the speed and will try to take them wire to wire with K. Desormeaux. The closer is the favorite and may win the race. Bet the high price and an exacta box with the other. Good luck!!!
