Thursday's 8th race (5:37pm PT) from Del Mar is an Optional Claiming affair for 3-year-olds and up traveling eleven furlongs on the turf course (rail at 6 feet).

#8 Street Maven (5-1) has improved on turf since moving to the Doug O'Neill barn in March (3-2-1-0). He was clearly second best at 10f when last seen June 14 and the winner of that heat (Big Kick) returned to win the G2 San Juan Capistrano.

#10 African Oil (9-2) was no threat when last seen in the G2 Whittingham at Santa Anita May 24. He added blinkers and missed by a head vs. this kind at 10f May 1 and figures right there on his best day.

The Plays:

$16 to win #8

$8 Quinella 8-10

$1 Trifecta key 8,10 with ALL with 8, 10 ($16)

Congrats to cognibene and tv.
Was fun to watch until the far turn.
Mambo Man to try to wire. African Oil, Song To You, Christopher Street.
Like that 6 with the 9 in a weighted ex-box, t_v, how did Hog's Hollow lose your favor?
after scratches the contenders are close 7 Christopher Street 2 Bench Light 11 Mambo Man 8 Street Maven 6 Song to You
On that paved highway of a turf course, the 6 could go a long long way and could steal it.
open contest surrounding the following before scratches: 9 Hog's Hollow 6 Song to You 7 Christopher Street 11 Mambo Man 8 Street Maven any exotic has to include, as keys, 11 9 6 7 with 2 and 8 below
Interesting that Tom Proctor puts #1 Money Clip in for a tag while eligible as a nw1x. Hog’s Hollow is 2 for 4 during his comeback and the recently claim-proof 8yo has flourished @ Del Mar in the past. 6-1 seems fair on this Garcia/Gallagher charge.
Contenders before scratches: #2, 11, 7, 6, 5. The favorite #11 Mambo Man (7/2) is legitimate but luke warm by the m.l. maker. So I will look for better value in the #2 Bench (8/1). Horse is dropping with one of the best turf riders in the country, K. Desormeaux. Bet to win 2X to place. Exotics as you please. Good luck!!!
