Wednesday's 6th race (4:45pm PT) from Del Mar is the $100,000 Oceanside Stakes for 3-year-olds traveling a flat mile on the turf course.

#3 Midnight Crooner (4-1) is a fresh Baffert trainee sporting a solid company drill with Midnight Interlude on July 9. He won his last flat mile turf start over next out winner Old Time Hockey and projects an inner tactical trip under Bejarano.

#8 Blingo (3-1) is 2-for-2 on turf and should be finishing for Team Zenyatta. The fresh gelding should get pace to chase.

#1 Koast (4-1) tallied in 3 of his last 4 turf sprints and showed closing ability vs. older June 8.

#6 Boat Trip (7-2) is 3-for-3 on turf and stretched out successfully at Hollywood June 22.

The Plays:

$12 to win #3

$6 Quinella 3-8

Small field prices will be too short to make a play other than a key in an exotic.

I agree, #3 Midnight Crooner is the now horse in this race. Not only is the Bejarano/Baffert connection very potent, but the horse posted a 7f 1:24 and change work on 7/3/12 which makes him in great condition for this race. Only hope he is some kind of price!

Since we know nothing of the shipper, any logical exotic would have to consider including the British bred Facoltso

Midnight Crooner has to be considered a contender, BUT this race is fairly well balanced as the 9 Chips All In and to an outside influence of the 8 Blingo. Withe the betting all around in a relatively balanced field, an exotic is the way to wager, but that needs the odds to guide one.

Many moons ago I learned a good lesson, which I should have known already from the general trends in life: It isn't over till its over. Back then a $20 wager for a struggling college student was a big wager that should have been ear marked for the next year's tuition but I thought I had a sure thing: ATOMIC WINGS, a standout filly. Midstretch she cleared the field by 4 so, NATURALLY, I turned to get my money. What seems like only a few seconds on my trip to the window, the crowd gave a collective gasp!! I did not know until the replay just exactly what happened but not only did my wager get wings but so did this nice filly, who, under right handed whipping, made an abrupt left turn right into the inner hedges. When I got out to where I could see, there were three legs sticking straight up for the hedge and I thought she was dead. After about 45 more seconds a quiver and then a flopping occurred until the very frightened animal got to her feet only to run around in the infield (this was before the crowds were allowed out there). To this day, that is my "There is NO sure thing in racing" story and I'll swear by it.

Wow. I went to the pick 6 blog and there viewed what Steve Crist would call "caveman" tickets. I really suggest your buying a copy of his really informative DVD EXOTIC TICKETS and check out his enlightened process of main and backup ticket construction as it would readily put your ticket construction into the "productive" column. Using the current construction wastes considerable bankroll on a wager few single bettors could survive more than a few days.

Late, after scratches, another view of this race will come up on the putting green surface there near old Ligorati's headstone.
