POST TIME 9:05 PM EST--Churchill Downs is back in action taking some of the sting out of the close of both the Saratoga and Del Mar meets. The G3 Iroquois Stakes is on tab tonight...a race often used along the long trail to the Kentucky Derby to take place in just a mere 8 months from now!. This year's edition features a wide-open affair with a dozen 2 year-old colts ready to commence battle going 1 1/16 miles on the main track. After scouring the field for a probable winner, I landed on #4 Tapiture out of the Steve Asmussen barn. This Tapit colt exits a quality maiden race at Saratoga in which the winner, Strong Mandate, came back to blow the competition away in the G1 Hopeful stakes run on a muddy surface going 7 panels at Saratoga. #4 Tapiture should relish going two turns as indicated by the very equally rationed energy that shows in the BRIS pace figures. Jockey Ricardo Santana is particulary adept at two-turn routes which provides more confidence for a positive outcome. After this horse, I can probably throw out jmaybe only 4 horses, so let's focus on some long shot candidates to complete the Exacta. My selections will be #6 Honorable Judge and #12 Cee 'n O. #6 Honorable Judge has already successfully negotiated two turns and like the way he drew away in his debut. Looks like a value play today. #12 Cee 'n O is one of two in here for Dale Romans and despite being stuck on the outside, I could see this colt getting up for a piece. Also distributed his energy equally in his sprint victory though, granted, against much cheaper than what #4 Tapiture faced. Tab this long shot underneath in your exotics. Favorite #9 Ride On Curlin can not be ignored but value will be hard to come by and he might just need this race.
