The opener at Belmont Park could be the coming out party for a trainer who has long done great at Big Sandy but recently had a terrible Saratoga meet. Trainer Bruce Levine had only one winner at the Spa and only has one horse entered on opening day at Belmont but that one looks incredibly well meant.
#5 BAWANA JAKE debuted against NY bred MSW company at the Spa last month and was away from the gate poorly which forced jockey John Velazquez to rush this colt into contention. He understandably tired in the last furlong as he was asked to do quite a bit of running in his debut as his trainer rarely has his horses ready to fire at first asking. He is 6-1 on the morning line today and stands to benefit from the expected wet weather as his sire is one of the best around when it comes to progeny on wet tracks.
