#7 QUALITY ROAD is making his third start off a long layoff today after finishing a well-beaten third in the Travers as the favorite. He really didn’t have much go his way in the Travers as he was bounced around at the start, was forced to race down on the inside over a sloppy track and came up wanting late. Going 10 furlongs in only his second start off a long layoff was a tall order, so his inability to get the 10 furlongs that day is understandable. Now, he has three sharp workouts under his belt and is drawn perfectly to get the trip he loves, the outside pressing role. #2 MACHO AGAIN was a head shy of beating the best horse in North America as he came flying late in the Woodward. Is going a furlong farther today than he did last time out and that will help him, provided the pace in this spot is steady. He should be on the move late, as long as there’s something left in the tank after the two excruciating races at Saratoga. #3 SUMMER BIRD won the Travers in powerful fashion as he stalked the pace, took over, and kicked strongly clear. He has worked steadily since the Travers and is one of the few in here who you can be sure is at his best at 10 furlongs. He’s a winner over this track and his trainer keeps guaranteeing everyone that he’s at his best now, so expect another top effort.
