Called To Serve steps up in Swaps

Wednesday's 7th race (4:09pm PT) from Betfair Hollywood Park is the Grade 2 Swaps Stakes for 3-year-olds traveling nine furlongs on Cushion Track.

#7 Called To Serve (5-1) improved smartly in his last pair (gelded). He followed up a sharp Santa Anita graduation run with a 1/2 length local win in the entry level ranks and might be this good for Eurton. Gomez hops aboard the outside tactical threat.

#6 Nonios (3-1) sat the right tactical trip in the local prep for this (G3 Affirmed). He is 3-for-4 lifetime and should continue to develop for Hollendorfer.

#2 Blueskiesnrainbows (4-1) might get brave if able to shake loose early in a race that came up light on pace. The Baffert runner gave I'll Have Another and Creative Cause a scare as the controlling speed under today's pilot Talamo in the SA Derby. He dons the hood and captured his lone local outing last December.

#5 Liaison (5-2) and #1 Rousing Sermon (4-1) both had productive juvenile seasons but have gone a combined 0-for-9 this year. The former has more tactical speed and is probably a bigger threat but won't offer much value.

The Plays:

$15 to win #7

$10 Quinella 6-7

$5 Quinella 2-7

NONE of them met the minimum odds to wager on. It was a push.

It's only a poor wager if you didn't have the #2 to win and 2-6 straight exacta!!!

matching up Called to Serve's BEST three pace lines suggests that this one cannot keep up early as well as not keep up later.

The 4 should be close to or setting the front fractions here, but does not have enough late to do it unless NO one challenges: best to consider in an exotic however. This one may be a one race wonder as well so take that one with a big grain of salt. 1 (Rousing Sermon who has improved quite a bit who's best race occurred over this strip last year). 5 Liason (would not be a surprise but will be too short probably to back logically..also ran his best at two at the Inglewood oval) and 6 (Nonios) to chase and with favoritism amongst that group to the rail colt. This last one has had soft internal fractions to run at and may be too far back at the line to do much other than underneath.

Short field obvious choices = poor wagers unless the crowd goes nuts so we will need to see what their straw vote is to consider plunking down hard earned money.

This #2 is tough as nails to pass!! There's no C. Cause and I'll Have Another in here today (although Hollendorfer's colt is getting real good real fast). Gotta go #2 to win and straight exacta 2-6!
