Saturday's 9th race (5:11pm PT) from Betfair Hollywood Park is the Grade I American Oaks for 3-year-old fillies traveling a mile and a quarter on the turf course.

#3 Emollient (5-2) has been brilliant (G1 Ashland) and clunky (G2 Black-Eyed Susan, G2 GP Oaks) this year, and Mott had Saratoga options but decided to try to turf in SoCal. The enigmatic daughter of Empire Maker shows two Belmont inner turf works for this and has speed in a race that came up light on pace. The versatile Grade I winner retains the services of Mike Smith and might freak again if she sneaks away early.

Play Saturday’s $10k game at DerbyWars.com.

#5 Scarlet Strike (2-1) is a gem of consistency but is not big on winning. Bejarano rides her well and the late striding Hollendorfer trainee can run all day.

#6 Becky Lou (12-1) is an improving Great Britain transplant for profitable, low profile trainer Matt Chew. She is training well for this, attracts leading rider Joe Talamo, and can spice up the exotics.

The Plays:

$18 Exacta 3-5

$1 Trifecta 3-5/ALL/6 ($12)
