Meydan Magic back on turf for Canani

Friday's 8th race (4:38pm PT) from Betfair Hollywood Park is a $52,000 Maiden Special Weight affair for CA-bred 3-year-olds and up dashing six furlongs on the turf course (rail at 15 feet).

#5 Meydan Magic (7-2) split a 10-horse field in his turf sprint bow and exits an okay 3rd in a local Cushion Track sprint. I like the rider switch to Garcia and profitable trainer Canani is 5-for-10 with his second turf starters.

#8 U'narack (5-2) set the pace and held the place behind a next out winner in his long ago Del Mar bow. Unusual Heat is a fine grass sire and dam has tossed two turf winners.

#6 Ambitious Brew (10-1) is out of 24% first turf sire Tizbud and dam has tossed a turf winner. Marty Jones shows a profit with his debut turf starters.

The Plays:

$18 to win #5

$8 Quinella 5-8

$4 Quinella 5-6

Too bad he scratched, next time>>In the other division of this race, #3, I like the cleverly named Which Way Hank (15-1 ML) in spite of Harty’s horrendous %s with 1st time starters. The breeding, the fact he is a gelding and his preparation in the morning led me to WWH.
