Today’s fifth race (11/25) at Betfair Hollywood Park is the 31st running of the $250,000 Gr. I Matriarch.  This race will consist of fillies and mares three years old and upward running a mile over the turf course.

The morning line favorite of the group is the five horse Dayatthespa (2-1).  The City Zip filly was last seen winning the Gr. I Queen Elizabeth Cup at Keeneland back on October 13th.  The Chad Brown trainee has six wins and one second from eight career starts and has not lost since Javier Castellano has been in the saddle.  Strong win contender!

#6 – Star Billing (10-1) is coming off of an eighth place finish in the Gr. I Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf back on November 2nd.  The Dyanformer filly will be dropping in distance for trainer John Shirreffs and fits in better with this group in my opinion.  Star Billing won this race last year and has only finished out of the money once in five career starts on the Hollywood turf.  Victor Espinoza will take the irons today.

Taking off from the two hole is the Great Britain shipper Emulous (5-2).  The Dansaili mare has seven wins, two seconds and two thirds from 13 career starts all being on the turf.  Emulous is coming off a close third place finish in the Gr. I Coolemore Fusaichi Pegasus Matron Stakes back in Ireland.   Would not surprise me if Emulous was the favorite come post time.

Plays:

$10 win, $20 place on the 5

$.20 Super  5/2,  5/2/6/1,  2/6/1/8,  1/6/8

$2 Exacta  5/2 - 6

$1 Exacta  6 – 2/5

Castellano during his interview after the race said Dayatthespa was in a tight spot and was propping to jump the rail.

Thanks for the correction! Can't believe the jock stayed up either, nice job by Castellano. Did not give up though, she kept running.

Remarkable footing to stay up, and for jock not to fall off even more impressive. Hope she'll be ok.
