That was horrible handling of him, except for the guy that caught him while QR was blindfolded, and didn't let him run off to get injured. I allowed him excuses that others didn't. But, I see plenty o' excuses for their favs. Fast, fast, fast. I don't know a thing about breeding horses or what makes a good match, just liked this one. Hope Groupie Doll can still come back though, not be a mom yet, until a few more nice wins. I like your analysis of the matches, cocoa, but I'm not keen on the town bicycle, Tapit. · 55 days ago ·

It fails to bring stud fee, location, conformation, ability and foal size into the equation. Tapit, for instance, is a good example. TrueNicks gives him a C+, yet I found multiple VERY successful horses from a Tapit/Dixieland band cross and from a Tapit/Deputy Minister cross. While Groupie Doll is not one who excels on dirt, the opposite can be said of Bullet Train. It is rare nowadays that an imported stallion will have great success, and as good as Bullet Train is, I don't think he is a good fit for Groupie Doll. While it appears to be popular sentiment recently to be a little down on Tapit, I happen to think that he is one of the best sires in the U.S. He consistently produces the goods often with very little to work with. I give a lot more credit to sires like him who do it (rise to prominence) the hard way (starting at $12.5K) rather than those who start off high and flop to moderate levels (Ghostzapper at $200K comes to mind, even though he has stepped it up of late). Based on the choices offered here – to me, Tapit would appear to be the safest bet. · 55 days ago ·

There is really little upside about him. He didn't have amazing blinding speed, just the ability to stay in front long enough to win. Her most important wins this year would be the Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Sprint and the Cigar mile, I don't see how this could be the most outstanding achievement of 2012. Is winning the Filly and Mare Sprint and Cigar Mile greater than Ill Have Another winning the Derby and Preakness or Little Mike winning the two most important American turf races, the Arlington Million and Breeders Cup Turf or Fort Larned winning the Whitney and Breeders Cup Classic or Royal Delta winning the toughest Ladies Classic in years or Wise Dan winning races across the country? She's a much, much better filly now with the ability to come from well off the pace or settle in just off it. Mary Z. · If she hadn't had the time off for the hock (fill in the blank, tv: issue, problem, veterinary word I'd have to look up) then I'd say she should rest, maybe until an early 2013 race at Gulfstream. However, this proposal to race her in the open company grade 1 Cigar Mile is taking dead aim at HOTY, since Groupie Doll is the assured female sprint Eclipse winner(and she was even before her BC win, imo) and she is also a top older female contender, so very understandable with another top HOTY contender being mainly a miler and now a turf miler, that this chance for the very top prize would be taken. Mike in SB · Today no horse is asked to carry weight, the top weight will probably be 122 pounds or so. I wonder what they consider a fair weight. After seeing her at Santa Anita, I think she could beat most colts at even weight at 6-7 furlongs, maybe a mile. But I don't think she has a chance to be either Horse of the Year or Older Female even with a win. Wise Dan will be Horse of the Year and Royal Delta will be champion older filly. · 184 days ago ·

It just all depends on how the voters decide to choose. Remember Zenyatta? The year she won the Classic she didn't get HOTY, but the year she lost the Classic by a nose, she received top honors.
