medlocke · This is generally the time of the year that you see Goldikova come into her level. Not that she doesn't already look sensational during the rest of the year, too. I think she'll win the G1 Prix De l' Foret again on Sunday. As for Galikova, she's been one of the most rapidly improving fillies in Europe this season. 3yr.old or otherwise. Personally, I would rank only Sarafina slightly above her among the French fillies this season. I think Galikova has a very live chance in this year's Arc. As a matter of fact, I'm using her to finish 3rd in my Arc super-fecta. It's been a long dry spell for Coolmore in this race. But I believe they have an outstanding chance of securing an Arc win this season with 4 of the best in their stable entered. So You Think, St Nicholas Abbey, Treasure Beach, and Seville. I believe So You Think has just exactly the kind of class a horse needs to win an Arc, and I believe he'll do just that on Sunday. With the ground supposedly going to be much faster than it was when he ran in the Prix Foy. It wouldn't surprise me to see a big run out of St Nicholas Abbey either? He's been at his best this season on ground that was really fast when he won the G3 Ormonde Stakes at Chester and the G1 Coronation Cup at Epsom. JMO. · 132 days ago ·

medlocke · @BrianZipse, I agree, 110%!! Heffernan just needs to get So You Think to settle early, and ride him a little patiently at 12f than he usually does at 10f. As long as Seamie Heffernan does those 2 thing's? I believe So You Think will take care of the rest. If he win's or run's a really big race in the Arc on Sunday? I believe we'll see this horse come calling at Churchill Downs in November for the BC Classic. Right now Brian, I have So You Think-Sarafina-Galikova figured for my Arc tri-fecta. I'm debating between Workforce, St Nicholas Abbey, and Snow Fairy as to which one to use to complete my Arc super-fecta. I had initially chosen Snow Fairy. But I after some reflection, it may be presuming too much to think that 3 fillies will round out the first 4 places in the finish of this year's Arc? JMO. · 132 days ago ·

Rossington · For those considering backing Workforce to repeat as Arc champion this year? Fair warning!! It's news on almost every European racing web-site today that Sir Michael Stoute has voiced BIG CONCERNS about the ground at Longchamp on Sunday being far faster than what is to Workforce's liking. Stoute said it's no secret that Workforce is a better horse with some cut in the ground. But he's not sure that Workforce is going to get that on Sunday? Something to bear in mind. Stoute and Prince Khalid Abdullah sent Workforce all the way over from the UK to Churchill Downs for last year's BC Turf, and he was scratched out of the race on BC Turf day for precisely the same reasons. · 132 days ago ·

medlocke · Workforce hasn't been disgraced in any of his races this season by any means. But that said, Workforce also doesn't look nearly the same horse as a 4yr.old that we saw smash the Epsom Derby record and win the Arc as a 3yr.old. In my opinion, you're just throwing $$$ away if you're backing Workforce for a repeat Arc win this year. Sarafina, So You Think, Galikova, Snow Fairy, Reliable Man, and possibly even St Nicholas Abbey are all likely to get home ahead of Workforce at Longchamp this year, IMO. · 139 days ago ·

medlocke · In 2009, most European fan's thought St Nicholas Abbey was the second coming. He had undefeated juvenile season in 2009. Culminating with win's in the G2 Beresford Stakes in Ireland, and a runaway romp in the G1 Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster. As a 3yr.old in 2010, St Nicholas Abbey went off as a heavy favorite to win the English 2000 Guineas at Newmarket. But ended up a well beaten 6th in that race. He didn't run another race during his 3yr.old season. He made his 2011 seasonal debut at the Curragh in Ireland in the G3 Alleged Stakes over 10f. But again, a sub-par run saw him finish 3rd in a messy race. Then, at the beginning of may, Aidan O'Brien brought St Nicholas Abbey to the Chester meeting and entered the son of Montjeu in the G3 Ormonde Stakes over 1-3/4. St Nicholas Abbey, with Ryan Moore aboard, exploded at Chester to win the Ormonde by some 12 lengths. Today at Epsom, St Nicholas Abbey was really up against it with Henry Cecil's 5-time G1 winning race-mare, Midday, and a hugely improved Dandino, who already won at Ripon and the G2 Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket over 1-1/2 this season. Plus another tough race-mare in Clowance, and this season's G3 John Porter Stakes winner Indian Days rounding out the G1 Coronation Cup field. Midday hung down the camber coming down the hill at Epsom and squeezed off St Nicholas Abbey between herself and Dandino. She immediately kicked 3 or 4 length's clear of St Nicholas Abbey. I actually called him beaten after that happened. But Ryan Moore did a fantastic job recovering. He got St Nicholas Abbey out into the clear, then got him to uncork that devastating turn of foot. Which he did, and immediately set about running down Midday, and winning the G1 Coronation Cup by 2 lengths. My guess is that Aidan O'Brien will go double handed again this year at Longchamp in the Arc De Triomphe with St Nicholas Abbey and the Australian wonder horse, So You Think. Which will make an even stronger pair than he had with Fame and Glory and Cape Blanco in last seasons Arc De Triomphe. JMO. · 250 days ago ·

medlocke · Ryan Moore has been Sir Michael Stoute's stable jockey for a long time now. But with the defection of Johnny Murtagh as Ballydoyle's stable jockey this year, Aidan O'Brien has been using Ryan Moore as much as possible on his best horses in major stakes races. Provided that Sir Michale Stoute doesn't have horse entered in the race, too. Moore has ridden the Australian superstar, So You Think, in both of his first two European races since he was transfered to Ballydoyle in Ireland from Bart Cummings stable in Australia. So You Think has won both the G3 Mooresbride Stakes and G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup in Ireland impressively. With Ryan Moore having ridden him in both races. At the end of yesterday's G3 Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown, where Workforce had defeated a very deep field, Moore was interviewed by RacingUK. He was asked, "you've ridden So You Think and Workforce, which do you prefer"? Moore smiled, refused to comment, patted the RacingUK announcer on the shoulder 2 or 3 times, and walked away. If Moore really believed that Workforce was the better horse of those two after winning the Brigadier Gerard Stakes? Why wouldn't he have said so for the record? Since he rides primarily for Sir Michael Stoute anyway. medlocke · I have a friend in Great Britain that I correspond with on a regular basis concerning European turf racing. I recently told him, post-Arc De Triomphe, that Churchill Downs would be a very difficult racetrack for Workforce to win the Breeders Cup Turf over if it didn't rain prior to the race? Given Workforce's only lifetime start on a firm, fast track produced the worst finish of his lightly raced career. When Harbinger blew him away by a street in the 2010 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot. I think Workforce is a terrific 3yr.old, given the right track conditions for him. But if Sir Michael Stoute goes ahead and let's Workforce race in the Breeders Cup Turf with the track as is? I think Workforce will be the favorite most vulnerable to defeat on Saturday.
