BrianZipse · How was is that pedigree said Cigar was a turf horse and Lure was a dirt horse (by the way, as a grandson of Northern Dancer, I completely disagree) if not for consistent trends in breeding results? Eddington loved a distance, and Dixieland Band is the broodmare sire of two Kentucky Derby winners ... you can't tell me this horse doesn't have a better chance of handling a distance than a horse with sprint breeding. · 70 days ago ·

DavidBenning · Eddington, trained by (it'll come to me...) ummmm (his name is on the tip of my tongue) what's his name, was my Derby horse, but I'll tell you when this colt really shined - when he hit the turf and I'm going to be very curious to see how his offspring do on that surface, including this smooth mover, who undoubtedly soothed Baffter's wounded heart coming not long after his terrific 3yo filly lost a heartbreaker to It's Tricky. Is there anyone in the moden era of horseracing who has endured tougher beats than Baffert? Give the man credit, he's a testament to the kind of resolve it takes to not only survive the bad beats but to rise above them and risk it all again. I take my hat off to him. · 199 days ago ·

CauseForConcern · I agree with you, David. The first to break his heart was Cavonnier. He had the Derby in '96, but he didn't see Grindstone on the far outside. He was coasting home. And then, Silver Charm and Real Quiet. Wow, his career is unbeliievable with setbacks. I believe Eddington was trained by Pletcher. One thing that struck me as odd about this horse, was he was a closer, yet he ran up on the front end with Smarty Jones. I felt their instructions were to take out Smarty, at all costs, and it paid off. They weren't intending on winning the race, they just wanted to make sure Smarty didn't win the Triple Crown. Much like Woody Stephens didn't want Winning Colors to win the Preakness, when he sent Forty Niner into the backstretch, to take Winning Colors 6 wide. · 198 days ago ·

medlocke · Thank goodness for Lookin At Lucky. The one bright star in what I consider the worst year for 3yr.old colts that I can remember for eons. Lookin At Lucky clearly stamped himself as much the best among 3yr.old colts in yesterday's Haskell Invitational. Easily dispatching both the Kentucky and Florida Derby winners. I really believe had the track at Churchill Downs not looked like a lake on Derby day. Lookin At Lucky would've been this year's Kentucky Derby winner as well. He's the only 3yr.old that's remotely talented enough to go forward to this year's Breeders Cup Classic. And even Lucky's chances of winning the Classic are very, very slim. With the likes of Quality Road, Blame, and Zenyatta headed for Churchill Downs in November as well. JMO. · 555 days ago ·
