amino998 · Merlin Volzke won this award presented to “an individual who has served the sport with integrity, extraordinary dedication, determination and distinction”. “Merlin was a well-liked guy,” Pincay said. ”He was a good rider — he didn’t have the opportunities some other riders have. He could ride a horse very well. The best thing I liked about him was his demeanor. He was very quiet, a very nice guy to be around. “I think it’s very special he is the first jockey to get the award,” Pincay added. “I never saw him get upset, no matter what happened in a race.
