Medlocke · Leahurst adapted to the Tapeta surface at Meydan as well as any horse that raced during the whole 2010 Dubai Racing Carnival, IMO. He ran two huge efforts, winning both of them on Meydan's main track. Leahurst suffered a fracture in winning his second start in Dubai. That's why he was scratched from the Golden Shaheen. But Leahurst, had he not been injured, really should have taken a shot at the Dubai World Cup as well as he performed on the Tapeta surface. Leahurst and Gitano Hernando are quite similar in the fact that until Gitano Hernando lost the race for the World Cup, both came in never having been beaten on any synthetic surface track that they had ever raced over. I really think Leahurst could have been a big player in the Dubai World Cup. Gitano Hernando could have, and should have finished much better than he ultimately did in the Dubai World Cup. He broke from gate #2, right outside of Allybar. But Fallon waited far too late into the race to make any kind of move with Gitano Hernando. Two or three times during the race, Fallon had the opportunity to split Mastery and Allybar, to get Gitano Hernando into the clear. By the time Fallon did get Gitano Hernando into the clear, he accelerated well. But Gloria De Campeao, Lizard's Desire, and Allybar were all ready off and gone. Listen to Jeremy Noseda when he says he questions a horse's ability to get the Derby distance...In more open Derby fields, winners get the clean trips...Always question a front runner's ability if all his prep races are run slow early and fast late...If there are four or more speed horses in the field, commit to mid-pack closers...All fillies aren't Eight Belles and Rachel Alexandra...Never handicap off less than four hours sleep!

Noseda was confident about Awesome Act: “He handled the dirt today. You would think a horse by Awesome Again would handle the dirt. For the first time, it’s all we could ask for. He’s a horse that is reminding me all the time of [2004 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner] Wilko.”
