medlocke · I sure wish Gio Ponti all the luck in the world going after his third straight Man O' War Stakes. I just hope he get's a sensible ride by Ramon Dominguez in the race. Because I feel that Aidan O'Brien wouldn't be sending Cape Blanco all the way over from Ireland unless he felt the horse was working well enough to win this race? Cape Blanco's a legitimate G1 horses himself, for sure. He's beaten Workforce in the G2 Dante Stakes at York. Midas Touch and Jan Vermeer in the G1 Irish Derby at the Curragh. And Rip Van Winkle and Twice Over in the G1 Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown. Cape Blanco also finished 2nd to Harbinger in last year's G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Royal-Ascot. I think Gio Ponti has the edge in this race, because of all the G1 success he's had in the past at Belmont. But I think Cape Blanco may be the best horse he's faced on the turf over 10f for a long, long time. JMO. · 217 days ago ·

Ian was all over Calvin Borel after his ride on Up In Lights Sunday at Saratoga. After watching the race replay I did not see any room for Calvin to work his magic on the rail. rossington · I'm just really glad to see a deserving colt like Musket Man back racing and competing successfully again. He was one of my favorites in 2009 during the run up to the 09 Kentucky Derby, because I felt he had a lot of talent, and was being looked over in favor of some of the other, more "marque" named colt's at the time, like Friesan Fire, Pioneer of the Nile, Dunkirk, and others. I think because he took the Tampa Bay Derby and Illinois Derby route coming into Churchill was why many overlooked him. But to see him come back in February after such a long lay-off to win the Super Stakes, and then run a superb place effort to Warrior's Reward, just missing by a whisker today, gives me a whole lot of hope for Musket Man's future during his 4yr.old campaign. I can't wait to see how he'll fair against Quality Road in the Met Mile, seeing how the two never got a chance to meet during the 09 Kentucky Derby or Preakness. · 676 days ago ·

This is a great analysis. I agree that Zensational is one of the more vulnerable favorites on the day. And since he should be bet well, that could lead to a big score, especially if Kodiak Kowboy is out of there as well as you predict.

One horse I still like in here is the Candyman. He's getting better and better with every race... and you know that Ian Wilkes has been pointing for this race since May. One other thing to keep in mind... is the surface Capt. Candyman Can trains over every day at Sky (Skylight training center) in KY... is none other than Pro-Ride - the same as Santa Anita.

Seems like a knucklehead move by Borel's agent to lose Mine That Bird. Yes, the Nafzger/Wilkes barn is Borel's meal ticket... and they gave him Street Sense and several others. But Warrior's Reward is no Derby winner, and you sort of have carte blanche understanding to drop other horses for the Derby winner... so you would think he could have gotten out of this committment.
