ILuvTurfRacing · I wish Animal Kingdom all the luck in the world, but I can't back him to win the Queen Anne Stakes. His wins in the Kentucky Derby & Dubai World Cup, plus his Breeders Cup Mile 2nd all came over flat, left handed tracks. The straight course at Ascot with it's up and down humps throughout the course will be a different ball game entirely for Animal Kingdom. Elusive Kate has run very well over that course at G1 level and may be the horse to be on in the Queen Anne, IMO. · 2 days ago ·

However, you're missing the point that her main form lines all come against fillies and on the undulations of Newmarket's various courses. Deauville run was, in honesty, a penalty kick and whilst she will finish in the top 3 here her 3rd in the QEII over course and distance has to suggest concern as to whether she is as effective against colts. · 2 days ago ·

icyhotboo · Great horses can run on any course. He's only had one race since his come back from an injury in which he's been at the top of his game. That was in Dubai. His tune up races against Wise Dan and Point Of Entry were spectacular in themselves considering them for what they were. Even money is a fair line for him. An overlay IMO, which if it holds up, and the course is firm, is tempting. This is a horse they should let run and just one time forget about the money breeding earns. A multi surface horse like this is rare and a tip off to greatness, if they would only let him run. We the fans always get the shaft when it comes to seeing the best run. Only the geldings and mares get to show how good they are and by doing so keep some interest in n/a racing because without them we'd be hard pressed to sustain this sport. Euro Trash · This is a weak edition of the Queen Anne. Not really betable in my opinion. If Elusive Kate has improved from last year, she will be the biggest challenge. I think they are trying to keep the course rated good. They feel the firmer the course, the more jarring it is on the thoroughbred, so they do try to keep it rated at least good. It has been good to firm in spots, still might be. · 1 day ago ·

ILuvTurfRacing · @icyhotboo, Yes, it's said great horses can run on any course. But in the case of Animal Kingdom, all of his best runs, I.E., Ky. Derby, Dubai World Cup, BC Mile, & Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap, have all come over flat, left handed tracks, no matter what the surface was. The straight course at Ascot with it's up and down humps throughout the course will be an entirely different ballgame than going left handed over flat tracks for Animal Kingdom. Elusive Kate ran 5 times at G1 level in 2012 over straight mile courses which included Ascot, Deauville, Newmarket, & Newmarket's July Course and she won the G1 Prix Rothschild at Deauville beating Golden Lilac and was never out of the $$ in any of the other 4. I'll take 5-1 on her versus even money on Animal Kingdom at Ascot, thank you very much. · 1 day ago ·

icyhotboo · @ILuvTurfRacing, I really don't understand your point. Do you think it's harder to run over a course with undulations than one with two turns? Actually adding another furlong to the distance about makes it correct. This is a 5yo stallion in his prime and raced into top form. If you think a good 4yo filly who has never raced with the quality of horses as AK has is a threat to one of the best horses in the world, good luck to you. As for me I'll take 4/5 and cash as opposed to 5/1 and rip, or R.I.P. as the case may be. Something you might consider is playing her under AK where you will get your 4/1-5/1. · 1 day ago ·

Euro Trash · I do understand what ILuvTurfRacing is saying. This horse has been running turns his whole career. Thoroughbreds are creatures of habit. Training a horse on a straight and racing on a straight are two different things. It may not bother Animal Kingdom at all. But, if his trainer mentioned that as one of the question mark, he must think that it could make a difference. On paper Animal Kingdom looks to dominate, and he may just do that. But, Elusive Kate looks to be the lone actual speed and may be able to stroll out front. I would also venture to say she is a little better than just a good filly, and may have progressed from 3yrs to 4 yrs. Aljamaaheer and Sovereign Debt are threats from the held up horses and Trade Storm could be the sleeper. It is not a race I will bet but will enjoy watching. · 1 day ago ·

MIke in SB · I am no expert on European racing but it seems like racing there requires a very high level of fitness. Uphill runs and the fastest part of the race being at the end, horses really need to be fit. In the United States today freshness seems to be more important than fitness, few American trainers use prep races for example. By the way polo horses are taught to change leads when the rider shifts their weight, I don't know if it would work with a 115 lb jockey though. · 22 hours ago ·

travel_vic · most of their courses are simply rails put up over existing ground with all its topography, then some like Longchamps go UPHILL at the finish....They are nothing like a single course here...Lyaout wise maybe Woodbine's turf course as it does drop down a bit from the back stretch to the strech but nothing like the undulations you see all the time over there. · 21 hours ago ·

Rossington · Quite frankly, I didn't think Dream Ahead beating Goldikova in the Prix De la Foret was as big of an upset as a lot of analyst made it out to be. It's not as if Goldikova was beaten by some nag in Dream Ahead. We're talking about a horse in Dream Ahead that broke his maiden by 9+ length's first time out at Nottingham racetrack in the UK, and then became a G1 stakes winner in just his second lifetime start. When he shipped to Deauville, France and won the G1 Prix Morny over 6f. Going into the Prix De la Foret, Dream Ahead already had 4 G1 win's over 6f, and he also finished his 2yr.old season in 2010 tied with Frankel for the highest official rating from Timeform among 2yr.old's. Dream Ahead's rating for his G1 Middle Park Stakes win, and Frankel for his G1 Dewhurst Stakes win. I'm not saying I agree with the ratings, but I also don't work for Timeform. All that said about Dream Ahead, I still wouldn't completely write off Goldikova's chances of winning a 4th BC Mile. Although I will admit she looks more vulnerable in this one than any of the other 3 BC Mile's that she's won. But Goldikova's saving grace in the race may come in the form of something I've heard a lot racing analyst say about her over the years. In Europe and America. That although Goldikova's raced far less in America than she has in Europe. She may actually be more effective on American racetracks, because she seems to run a mile better going around turns than she does on the straight mile track's in Europe. I tend to agree with that comment. Because when you watch Goldikova in her previous BC Mile win's, she explodes around turns in those races. Winplacsho · I think Goldikova is better around 2 turns too. Plus, she gets a better pace to run at in the USA. In Europe, she is normally very close to the pace because its so slow. Also, in the Prix De la Foret it seemed as she made the lead too soon while Dream Ahead was allowed to buy his time along the outside. She gave a winning effort, so my confidence in her chances to win the BC mile hasn't waivered. · 624 days ago ·

footlick · I think hat she is running against better horses his year. Other than Makfi, Paco Boy was he best horse she ran against last year. This year she has run against Canford Cliffs, Immortal Verse and Dream Ahead. IMO they are more in Makfi's league than Paco Boy's. But she seems to love American tracks and American racing and you can't say that about all Euros. She will be a tough bet against here, unless you feel she is going to go off form. · 624 days ago ·

medlocke · This is generally the time of the year that you see Goldikova come into her level. Not that she doesn't already look sensational during the rest of the year, too. I think she'll win the G1 Prix De l' Foret again on Sunday. As for Galikova, she's been one of the most rapidly improving fillies in Europe this season. 3yr.old or otherwise. Personally, I would rank only Sarafina slightly above her among the French fillies this season. I think Galikova has a very live chance in this year's Arc. As a matter of fact, I'm using her to finish 3rd in my Arc super-fecta. It's been a long dry spell for Coolmore in this race. But I believe they have an outstanding chance of securing an Arc win this season with 4 of the best in their stable entered. So You Think, St Nicholas Abbey, Treasure Beach, and Seville. I believe So You Think has just exactly the kind of class a horse needs to win an Arc, and I believe he'll do just that on Sunday. With the ground supposedly going to be much faster than it was when he ran in the Prix Foy. It wouldn't surprise me to see a big run out of St Nicholas Abbey either? He's been at his best this season on ground that was really fast when he won the G3 Ormonde Stakes at Chester and the G1 Coronation Cup at Epsom. JMO. · 628 days ago ·

medlocke · @BrianZipse, I agree, 110%!! Heffernan just needs to get So You Think to settle early, and ride him a little patiently at 12f than he usually does at 10f. As long as Seamie Heffernan does those 2 thing's? I believe So You Think will take care of the rest. If he win's or run's a really big race in the Arc on Sunday? I believe we'll see this horse come calling at Churchill Downs in November for the BC Classic. Right now Brian, I have So You Think-Sarafina-Galikova figured for my Arc tri-fecta. I'm debating between Workforce, St Nicholas Abbey, and Snow Fairy as to which one to use to complete my Arc super-fecta. I had initially chosen Snow Fairy. But I after some reflection, it may be presuming too much to think that 3 fillies will round out the first 4 places in the finish of this year's Arc? JMO. · 628 days ago ·

Rossington · For those considering backing Workforce to repeat as Arc champion this year? Fair warning!! It's news on almost every European racing web-site today that Sir Michael Stoute has voiced BIG CONCERNS about the ground at Longchamp on Sunday being far faster than what is to Workforce's liking. Stoute said it's no secret that Workforce is a better horse with some cut in the ground. But he's not sure that Workforce is going to get that on Sunday? Something to bear in mind. Stoute and Prince Khalid Abdullah sent Workforce all the way over from the UK to Churchill Downs for last year's BC Turf, and he was scratched out of the race on BC Turf day for precisely the same reasons. · 628 days ago ·
