Clay Bischoff, a native of Richwood Kentucky is the son of accomplished trainer Tom Bischoff and cousin to Steve Cauthen. Born into the business, he is a seasoned veteran of the track working closely with his father his entire life. He has a clear understanding of the racing industry which can be attributed to being surrounded by all aspects of the business. His Uncle "Tex" Cauthen was a Hall of Fame Ferrier at the racetrack and his cousin Steve Cauthen won the Triple Crown in 1978 aboard Affirmed. In 2009 Clay obtained his trainers license and took over his father's stable. Since then he has finished at least 50% across the board. His first win came at Turfway on Dec 3rd 2009 with Nafath. He continued to do well throughout the winter meet in 2010 finishing 100% across the board. This streak carried over to Keeneland with a $50,000 maiden claiming win with Flying Warrior on opening day finishing 50% for the meet. At Indiana Downs in 2010, Clay finished 75% with 4 wins and 2 shows of 8 starts. Overall, he finished 2010 54% ending the year with three wins New Years Eve and Day at Turfway. Continuing to do well in 2011 he finished the winter meet at Turfway 75% with 6 wins, 1 place and 2 shows of 12 starts. In the summer meet at Indiana he finished 56% with 3 wins and 2 places of 9 starts. In 2011 overall he finished 51%. Clay has a clear understanding of the racing industry. As a trainer he prides himself on being perceptive of the personality of each horse and individual needs both physically and nutritionally. He strives to keep the horses happy so they are willing to perform when called upon. Each horse is different and requires individual attention in order for them to reach their full racing potential.
