Anna was born in Flowood, MS on June 27, 1988. She is the daughter of Lynn Roberts and the late Brady Roberts. She was raised in Belzoni, MS until the age of 9 when her family moved to New Orleans. She always loved horses and had tons of stuffed horses and Breyer Horses to play with.
After moving to New Orleans she got her first trip to Fair Grounds Race Course. She was hooked!
Didn't take long for her to decide she wanted to be a jockey. Her parents weren't quite so sure but she was determined!
She began taking English riding lessons and for the next few years she was quite competitive in the Hunter and Jumper Show Rings.
At 15 the family moved to Franklinton (65 miles north of New Orleans) and Anna began to attend Franklinton High School. She continued to ride and show Hunters and Jumpers at Lagniappe Farm in Folsom. At 16 she started learning to gallop race horses at Folsom Thoroughbred Training Center.
During her Senior year in High School she applied to the first class of the North American Riding Academy created and run by Hall of Fame Jockey, Chris McCarron. She interview in Kentucky several times and was accepted! In September of 2006 Anna moved to Lexington, KY to attend the school.
She spent the next 1 1/2 years attending NARA. She then moved to New Olreans in December 2007 to begin an internship galloping for trainer Al Stall, Jr.
In the spring of 2008 she moved back to KY as she continued to work for Al Stall, Jr. as a gallop girl.
It was during this time that she lost her father, Brady to Leukemia.
She continued to gallop at Keeneland until August when she packed up and moved to New York for 7 weeks to gallop for Al during the Saratoga meet. It was a terrific experience for her!
Then back to Lexington until November of 08 when she moved back to New Orleans for the upcoming Fair Grounds 08-09 meet. She continued to gallop for Al all during the meet making contacts with other trainers.
Towards the end of the meet in March she got her jock's license and picked up her agent, Richie Price. She rode her first official race at Fair Grounds on March 12, 2009! It was a mile on the turf.
She rode Code Of Honour in the lead most of the race but then he tired in the stretch and finished 7th. It was a pretty good showing for a first race!
She rode 2 more at Fair Grounds before the meet closed at the end of March and then moved her tack to Louisiana Downs in Bossier City, LA. She rode her first winner, King of Mardi Gras at Evangeline Downs on April 29, 2008! This was only her 4th mount.
She had quite a successful summer there booting home 18 Winners and won once more at Evangeline Downs, again on King of Mardi Gras.
She then moved her tack back to New Orleans to ride at Fair Grounds.
Currently she has 5 winners at the 2009-2010 meet and looking for more!
