12thCrown · My only gripe with OP is that many top jockeys don't like to ride there early in meet due to frigid temps, so they don't have a top jock colony. DeadHeat · I love Oaklawn. Both Lawyer Ron and Curlin, two of my faves came from their before the Derby. Also wise to note how often a horse coming from Arkansas runs in the top 4 finishers in the Derby. 2004 Smarty wins, 2005 Afleet Alex third, 2006 Stepanwolfer third, 2007 Curlin third, 2008 Eight Bells second, 2009 Papa Clem 4th, 2010 Super Saver won, 2011 Nehro second. It is most certainly a hot track that has probably one of the best and most consistent Derby records in the last decade. · 40 days ago ·

How good is it? 09/25/2011 SA 7F 1:23.20 Dirt Fast H · mdracing69 · The clocker at Today's Racing Digest said the Sept 25 work was the best he had ever seen for a juvenile. He gave stablemate Castaway a ten length head start and made up ground in the blink of an eye. As for Drill's seven panel move on Oct 25, he started about seven lengths behind Star Presence. He closed the gap and was all square on the line. They galloped out another furlong as a team and Drill had something in reserve. The work was deemed Excellent. MichaelPavelick · I put Drill in virtual stable after the BC Juvenile. Bafferts slant of working this colt at 7 furlongs 3 times and winning a grade one at 7 furlongs, made me feel Baffert wanted the colt going 7.5 or 8 furlongs. If Baffert works the colt at Delta downs 2-5 days before the Million dollar race, then this BIG graded pot makes sense to qualify or lock him in for the Derby. WAY TOO early to be speaking seriously about the Derby. This colt finished 2nd in the Norfolk so he belongs with the elite of the Juveniles though. MichaelPavelick · Your not that naive are you? That BC Juvenile was a CLASSIC study of a "NO FACTOR" race. Its enough racing racing activity to keep his current condition sharp, but gives the colt a freshener at the same time. Until Baffert decides what "spot" is best. It appears that the Million dollar Delta Jackpot is the "SPOT". If Baffert breezes the colt at Delta downs right before the race, you can then guarantee the Delta Jackpot is the spot. · 91 days ago ·

cigar · Times of workouts are far less important than how the horse does them, or the frequency... I think over the long run the amount of horses you don't bet on but were working well are offset by the visa versa. I think it probably generally all evens out. · 91 days ago ·
