|ILuvTurfRacing Chriselliam was much the best in this race. All week long she really has been one of the top buzz horses during her works at Santa Anita, and she show... mored today that her win in the G1 Shadwell Fillies Mile at Newmarket back in September was no fluke.
Tale of the Cat

|Sullivan was supposed to start today in the Tyro Stakes with blinkers. She will not, however, and was an early scratch. I do not know the reasoning.

|travel_vic Replays as handicapping tools are fraught with errors. At every race track where I have worked and, since then, at every track I have observed, the p... moreoto patrol have the same thing, EACH race is filmed by a back tower, front tower, apex , upper and lower pan camera so as to get the best overall view of the happenings from start to finish. Whenever a foul claim is adjudicated, the stewards request MULTIPLE views at the point where it was supposed to have taken place. You would be simply amazed at the completely different perspective a front tower can get with the head on, as opposed to the monocular, “ GRANDSTAND only” lower pan shot that is offered to the crowd as the replay. The narrative fallacy is to portray a story, a “best guess” account since you were not actually there to know what really happened , upon a situation that could have been completely different had you know the real facts. Way back in April when it was still cool and wet here, we had a foul claim after a horse abruptly bore out late. ONLY on the front tower shot, could you see what actually happened: the rein closest to the rail was wet and when the rider took up the horse in the drive, she slipped down about 14 inches on the line ON ONE SIDE ONLY, so the horse reacted..From the lower pan (the ONLY one the crowd has for review later on) you could have never seen that...So you are reconstructing fiction based upon YOUR limited analysis leaving out the reality that was not available to you...I see this almost 3 or 4 times per week: people don’t know the truth so they tell themselves a story to fit what they think the facts really are. Just about the time I wrote this, the stewards called for a review of the 8th race (Ontario Debutante 8/10/13). The big favotie, 6, Conquest Whiplash, who had been prominent to the top of the lane, finished last at 6/5, but no formal inquiry was called. A shipper’s rider, Pablo Morales on the 1 Sweetsourtherndame, wanted a review, claiming that he had been bothered by the favorite. From the STANDARD lower pan view, the only perspective the crowd ever sees on playback, it looked clean. When viewed by the Front tower camera however, the 6, making the pace with the winner, 4 (Skylander Girl) had blown the turn, forced the eventual winner into the 6th path, and then bounced back almost to the rail (at which point the rider (McAleney) yanked her head abruptly to her right. If one had not seen the front tower view, the trouble (head being yanked) would have only been available AFTER the real trouble happened (going wide). The crowd, not privy to that view, would have missed the source of the trouble. This happens all the time: one is left to make erroneous conclusions by not being able to see what actually was the trouble in the race.
