I have a big problem with WinStar claiming to open their doors and give VIP treatment FOR A FEE. I really dislike the idea of having to pay money to feel like and insider. Also, I find it funny, that with my paid membership, I have the opportunity to spend more money (auctions, $50 picnic, etc). Brian, I have no doubt that a lot of things WinStar is good for the sport. This one is just icky to me, I hope the other farms don't follow the lead of charging their fans to see and participate in activities that are free at many other farms around Kentucky and elsewhere. · 60 days ago ·

AlGem · I have to agree with you what they are doing for the fans. Winstar Farm had a contest a while back and they ran a few of them to name their colts in contests. I entered them and I was a LUCKY winner in one of them. And can you believe that it is Gemol…read moreogist that I named and now is on the derby trail. It makes me feel good that even though I am not an owner I feel like I am a part of him,knowing he his caring that name and for the rest of his life and that is something I am a part of even when he goes to stud and has crops of his own one day. It's so cool when I read the articles about him on the internet with his name and it hits me that I named him or when they are calling his name during the race by the track announcer. It was exciting to see him win the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes and hear his name called. They sent me a copy of the jockey papers that you get when the colt is named for racing and a key chain with his name on it like you see them wear on their halters. I also play the other contests they have as well. I am a free member of there stablemates and hope to join one of the graded ones one day. I do want to see though if he does make it to the Derby or one of his other big races he may run if I would request tickets if they would agree and be a part of the winners circle. That would be so great. Winstar has figured it out. I know it is all about breeding and owning but if it was not for the fans and people who bet on the races,would there be an industry for horse racing. Sorry to be so long in this message. Also, the farmcam is an awesome idea to show fans a behind the scenes point of view. 4everZenyatta · An amazing race with amazing horses, amazing jockeys, and amazing connections. None of these horses were pitiful Steve, they were all amazing, hence the reason they were all loaded into that starting gate. They all had their own amazing races and stunned us all. Though I am not a fan, Havre de Grace ran a good race, but it just wasn't her day, it was Drosselmeyer's. Game On Dude ran an amazing race as well, so did Ruler on Ice, this race was redemption for Mike Smith, truly, and he deserves every bit of praise everyone gives him for his perfect ride. I am proud to say that he is the greatest jockey ever in my eyes and I truly do not care what anyone else says. Even though sometimes he can't always get the greatest mounts during slow points in the racing season and he loses claimers and such, but when it matters, he pulls through. I will never forget this race which brought me to my feet, screaming and jumping up and down, it was truly one to remember. · 94 days ago ·

Yes I know he finished off the board, but not a terrible performance for his first on dirt. Really just a tad lacking in starpower, plus the final result of the Classic basically summed up what a hodgepodge year it was for American horses, where just about every major race was taken by a different outsider, only fitting the crowning event follow suit. · 91 days ago ·

My 2008 Kentucky Derby top Colonel John gave me a bit of redemption in Travers. Was an okay 6th of 11 in 2008 BC Classic. Pulled a muscle after disappointing 4th in Malibu, and he was forced to miss Strub Stakes. Came down with temperature and scratched out of the Big Cap.

Colonel John's younger brother took 5 starts to graduate. $200k Keeneland sales grad did not seem to care for Hollywood Park surface in 2008. Followed up visually impressive flat mile Pro-Ride maiden win with rallying show finish (strong gallop-out) in Sham Stakes (G3).
