tom dabom · i kinda agree and have a computer program that can help. it's called dabom-hrp (Data Analysis of Bi-Optional Matching Horse Racing Program). it's so simple a caveman can do it. the huge amount of information from publishers available to the handicappers is overwhelming and therefore discouraging to a novice. the owners, breeders, trainers, jockeys and tracks have put together the best sporting event and it's greatly appreciated. but the bottom line is the horse race itself. that's where my program concentrates. it's simply all about position, speed and results. the racing industry is fine except for the enormous takeouts. the new internet public just needs a simpler way to understand and thus participate. · 63 days ago ·

tom dabom · why can't all the tracks in the country have their own internet betting regimes like Churchill or New York? it would be too bad for youbet or expressbet and the like but the tracks would sure benefit from the increased handle and create more jobs. i think people like me sure would like to be able to play the horses without having to drive hundreds of miles to a track or OTB in states where they don't permit internet gambling. the racing industry should wage a campaign on those states' legislatures who have been catering to the casinos' kickbacks and getting fat on the lottos. · 63 days ago ·

DeadHeat · Racing has been working on ways to better itself for the fans, and yes I understand why, because their money defnintely helps more than your avg everyday fan coming on for GA. However, I do think racing needs to open itself to fan marketing. Make more movies, and this time please don't disneyize it so much. I personally loved Seabusicut, I know it was not completely factual, but I don't think anyone can argue that it was uplifting and inspiring. Dreamer was a kid like movie, but it was overall good. Secretariat sent a good message, I think Disney did a little to much disneying though. Try to get more books out, not just betting books but books that are from jockeys, owners, trainers, whoever. Let writers get in so they can get around horses like Curlin, Rachel, Zenyatta, Cigar, Holy Bull, etc. These horses, could do so much more for the sport if marketed correctly. Also why not host contests that if you win you get a free visit to Lanes End, or get to spend the day in the jocks room or on the backside at a specific barn. What racing doesn't get is that when you bring on fans, you also may bring on bettors too. I don't bet too much but I love to handicap and if i see a horse I like I'll throw some money that way. Racing also would need to publicize before and after these things. Racing needs somebody who is good in marketing that doesn't just know horses and betting but what a fan wants, so they can market it to all audiences. · 62 days ago ·

The best promotion of recent times was Seabisciut and even that was not about the fans but about an amazing horse. Even at Woodbine, which has had a very nice makeover in recent years, they still shoot themselves in the foot by allowing bird shit to cake onto the seats. Keep the place clean at all times, including seating areas, washrooms, eating facilities. COMP regular customers more liberally-it doesn't always have to be money-offer more free food, drinks, programs, racing forms for certain (lower) amounts of money earned. tom dabom · to travel_vic, i also started on a Commodore 64, then progressed to self taught visual basic and ended with (DABOM-HRP) a work in progress that is based on how only 2 factors, speed and position effect the outcome of a race. there is only 1 element of a race that eludes quantifying, style and the race to the rail. it seems there are two general styles of racers, front runners and gainers, their position in the gates effects the race to the rail and seems to determine the pace. with that in mind, i can only rely on cumulative results of the past. · 62 days ago ·
