Now is not the time to forfeit and dishonor the horse's chances as long is he healthy and injury free. If he is mathematically alive for 3 year old colt, and Breeders Cup Day is what carries the major determination, then he needs to follow through with that. I don't necessarily think he is the best horse or even in the top 5, but I'm not sure I would be either on an over raced schedule - 15 races in a year and 3 months is nearly one race per month and very unchararistic of what is recommended for major horses running major races nowadays. The Desormoux brothers have exercised very poor judgment in not sitting him out of some races, and it's amazing how none of us have put that together until after this last race. They can undo some of that problem by the fact that they have 6 and not 4 weeks. Rest him the max amount of time and train him the minimum. He's already gained about all the fitness he can gain for the year. And who knows? He may just hit Santa Anita on a rainy day; although if he faces CalChrome, that will probably be when the wet surface magic runs out. I would only enter him into the dirt mile if a majority of the other colts who are in contention enter, and even then, you are giving Arrogate a wide open shot at convincing voters of being the three year old colt instead of contesting him.

I wonder if Texas Chrome has had enough rest. He ran 15 days ago
1st: Lady Eli 2nd: Dacita 3rd: Strike Charmer 4th: Sentiero Italia
1st: Songbird 2nd: Beholder 3rd: Cavorting 4th: Stellar Wind
Harass has been retired and was bred to Mineshaft.
Updated prediction: 1st: Fish Trappe Road 2nd: Texas Chrome 3rd: Ready Dancer 4th: Seeking Blame
I have a question:Why was Songbird's Equibase speed figure so high when she ran the Cotillion in a claiming time?

Pa Derby Track 09/24/16 I like #7 Gun Runner he is the best horse but hasn’t learned to change leads (go to fresh legs in stretch). If he does he will win going away. There will be a lot of early speed in this race. In the last 10 years only 3 horses have won with Post Positions over#5 and they were two 7s and an 8. The reason no outside post has won is because the distance from the starting gate to the first turn is only 330 feet (1/2 Furlong). The chance of number 12 Hit it once More (Good pick) are slim. Last year Mr Z went from the 10 Post Position to the lead on the first turn, but tired in the stretch. I am looking at #4 connect.
He's a consistently good horse, just not a consistently *great* horse. Hopefully he'll do well in a BC race, and then improves next year. Out of curiosity, at what age do you believe these horses reach their peak?
  • Cugel the clever · Horses reach their physical maturity at 4-5 biological years of age. It's a shame that so many 3yo stars like Pharoah retire early. Would love to see him race as a 4-5 year old. We should all be grateful that Chrome racing during his peak performance years. · 3 hours ago
Unfortunately she will miss the Arc de Triomphe due to a slight injury sustained in the last few days. It is minor, but she won't be able to run next weekend.
  • ChessChamp · On a side note, Postponed has to be considered a massive favorite now, especially if Harzand doesn't go either. I would assume Almanzor is still being pointed to Ascot Champion Stakes, it would be very last second to switch him to the Arc? · 3 hours ago
Just as Creator and Mohaymen are getting the rest of 2016 off to rest, I think Exaggerator and Nyquist should do the same.
  • Pitbull · Nah resting = rust. That's their problem. Nyquist needs a new jockey and trainer but needs to keep racing.JCGC should be next. On the other hand Mohayen just needs to Retire he has nothing anymore.. · 3 hours ago
IMO, you run at your best distance in the BC. Clearly, 1 mile is his best. He runs like a monster off lay-offs so hopefully they rest him. Plus, no one is touching CC or Arrogate in the BC Classic. It's all West Coast.
When Fox Hill confirmed that Songbird will run in Distaff, now all horses should be scratched except Cavorting, Beholder and Stellar Wind and then will be the race of the year.
Can't wait for next Wielka Warszawska and match between him and very good horse Caccini. Va Bank as polish HOTY two years in row?
Makes her American debut a winning one.
I really think he has this one...he's been training so good and he's shortening up...this should set him up perfect for the dirt mile then maybe the Malibu or cigar
  • By The Numbers via Disqus · Malibu is for 3yo's only. I think Baffert would prefer the Clark over the Cigar. It was his plan last year, until Dortmund came up with a 1/4 crack and he didn't want it to get worse shipping · 6 hours ago
  • MaryZinke via Disqus · Malibu is for 3 yos. I guess The Mile for Dortmund. Then why not train for that big purse in Florida. · 5 hours ago
