Just got through watching stretch drive of Derby a zillion times.I have trouble picking up Materiality earlier, but if the trouble they say he had early is accurate, then this colt ran a brave and very good race.I'm going to take Pletcher, home track and posited improvement of this lightly raced guy..plus the 3 weeks rest and make him my Belmont pick.Unless it rains because(in my opinion)no one is going to beat AP on a muddy track.if the track comes up drying and therefore "tiring" from earlier rain I'll take a flier on Itsaknockout who has the pedigree package to make some noise at the distance and who is by several accounts "suddenly training markedly well".
Coolmore has sold Cape Blanco to JBBA in northern Japan -- they they have enough Galileo representation, and Japan would like more...

  • Northport · Apparently it is a two year lease, not a sale. I guess if his progeny start burning it up in North America he will return to Ashford at the end of his lease · 215 days ago
  • ILuvTurfRacing · When you're career resume' says you have wins in the G1 Irish Derby, G1 Irish Champion Stakes, G1 Man O'War Stakes, G1 Arlington Million, & G1 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic, any country with a quality breeding program is gonna want to breed with that stallion if possible. Because he had 5 major G1 wins for his career, something that often gets lost in the shuffle about Cape Blanco was his beating Epsom Derby & Arc winner Workforce to win the G2 Dante Stakes at York as 3YO and as a 2YO his winning the G2 Futurity Stakes & G3 Tyros Stakes in Ireland. · 5 hours ago
I'm up in the air about Materiality and Made From Lucky. Divining Rod hard 3rd and AP 4th.
Moonlit Stroll, a narrow third in last month's G1 Humana Distaff, has been euthanized after breaking down during a workout on May 23rd
Right now I have to toss this horse. I just don't believe he can compete here in America. The change of feed, change of jockey, etc. I'll take my chances betting against him rather than with him.
Mylute, fifth in the 2013 Kentucky Derby and third in the Preakness when trained by Tom Amoss, will make his first start for Todd Pletcher on Friday in a $85,000 third-level allowance race going a one-turn mile at Belmont Park. It will be Mylute's first start since he ran in the Governor's Cup last August 2. According to DRF
  • tmallios via Disqus · As is the norm, they are giving Mylute a Cookie for his comeback race. This is done all over the country. As good as Mylute is, this is truly a public workout. For NYRA to do this, i am sure that the connections have un-officially commited to a Stakes Race at Belmont for his next out. Assuming of course he comes out in good order. · 13 hours ago
anyone know if this horse is in training?//
Far Right is nominated to a mile stake race at Prairie Meadows this Saturday. Not sure if they entered him yet, or if they will.
East Hall and My Point Exactly on there way to Penn National, should be a fun weekend.
My sources tell me Doug thinks he is the only one that bets on A.P. and everyone is against his horse, A.P. My other sources tell me V.E. didn't bring a whip and will not use one at the Belmont. Instead my sources confirm he will use a wet noodle to guide A.P. to an assured victory.
  • Douglas Rutherford via Disqus · AP and VE did a fabulous job huh : Not too shabby . . . Dortmund and Garcia ran the beginning of the race like I said ( from my sources ) that he would - by leaving AP plenty of room along the rail , and try drifting out abit to make sure FL didn't get to the inside fast : Cant help it that FL just was not really alert n ready ! Why do you think ( my sources said ) to completely toss FL and MR Z from the Superfecta . . . Hey : it is what it is - the results are what they are : Live with what ever excuse you want to come up with ! I would take ( my sources ) of people - horseman over your opinion each and every time : · 5 days ago
  • Douglas Rutherford via Disqus · If your in with the horseman - then you should have already been on the AP bandwagon : I don't know what side of the bed you wake up on : But you should break your normal routine · 12 hours ago
After breaking a shoe and finishing last of 4 in Sunday's G1 Prix d'Ispahan at Longchamp, trainer Corine Barande-Barbe told the Racing media on Tuesday morning that Cirrus Des Aigles is likely to bypass a title defense of the G1 Coronation Cup at Epsom on June 6th in favor of staying home in France to run in the G1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud on June 28th.
NYRA should kiss Bafferts,Zayats and American Pharoahs butts all the way to the bank. Not only has their success guaranteed them a packed house on Belmont Stakes Day. It has also saved them advertising money along the way. We are now 11 days away from the race. Unless you are a core horseplayer or follow events, You would hardly know that such a big event is on the horizon. You see, with NYRA capping the attendance at 90,000. There is no need for them to promote the day.Just because they cannot come to the track due to the restrictions. This is where the Racing game should be on overload as far as advertising their game. They have the potential to make history that has been missing for 37 years, yet except for a couple of obligatory promos,it is buisiness as usual.
  • tmallios via Disqus · Just read on another site that 20,000 Grandstand admission tickets remain. This add to the above regarding the promotion. I am sure that many of the fans are under the assumption that it will be buisiness as usual come Belmont Day. By that i mean you walk up and pay to get in. This now can be a recipe for dissaster regarding crowd control. Assume that if the seats are not sold in advance. That means that "X" amount of tickets will be available for sale on the date of the race. What happens if 5,000 tickets are left, and 25,000 fans show up for the event. That is why NYRA is going to have to hustle and sell off the remaining seats. Then make a city wide announcement via all outlets. That anyone without a ticket will not be allowed admittance. Oh well,at least the scalpers will now be back in buisiness. Can you imagine if the seats are sold out. Scalpers will be getting upwards of $50 for $15 grandstand tickets ,that only guarantee you admittance. · 13 hours ago
This whole American Pharoah workout, looking great thing is California Chrome 2.0. tmallios can't be liking it.
  • tmallios via Disqus · I did not see the work , so i can't comment. The difference on the surface is that the DRF is claiming that he is better than before. They are clueless and do not know what they are looking at. Last year Alan Sherman and the excersize rider were chirping. A way to know how different the works are. Look at the neck. Last year when Chrome worked before the Derby, his neck was extended and almost parallel to the ground. Before the Belmont, it was almost erect. As though he was pulling and they tried to restrain him. Also when they gallop and jog, what direction are they doing it. If they go clockwise and against the norm of how they race, that might be a sign that they are trying to slow them down. It is not an absolute science, but it sure panned out last year. One major reason that A.P. might not be over the top,as was C.C. last year. On sheets at least, CC came into the race off 2 consecutive lifetime best performances. A.P. on the other hand, ran a monster figure in the Derby. Then he backed up about 3 lengths in the Preakness. Regardless if he won by more, that is usually attributed to how the others run. I will be using Pharoah and Carpe Diem in this race. Nobody else, should someone else win. Then i am losing. · 18 hours ago
  • tmallios via Disqus · So far so good for A.P. . Just watched his gallop in the slop and he was galloping in the same direction he runs his races. Last year on many occassions, CC was galloping in a clockwise mode. Based on his work, he seems relaxed and not tugging on the bit. · 14 hours ago

Entered in a AOC going a one-turn mile at Belmont under new trainer Todd Pletcher. He'll face a field of 5 others. He is not in for a tag. It'll be his first start since Aug of last year.
  • jmac500 · I hope he does better now. · 1 day ago
  • Sullivan · Looking forward to the race, Pletcher seems to have got him in a good place. I hear he is galloping quite well · 14 hours ago
