Kentucky Derby 2017

Older Comments...

Pace was slow, don't know if he'll get that in the Derby. But congraats to him, he won his prep. More than you can say for McCraken, Mo Town, Tapwrit etc,
  • Steve Gibson via Disqus · Pace may have been slow, but if you compare his actual SA Derby pace figs with Irish War Cry's Wood they are nearly identical all the way around their respective tracks. Yet people are claiming IWC's Wood was somehow amazing and he's a top 3 contender, and also claiming the SA Derby stunk and Gormley is a toss out. That is exactly the type of Kentucky Derby hype and and irrational "sentimental" handicapping that one should be looking to take advantage of. :-) · 8 minutes ago
Will this turn out to be the career high point for Gormley? https://www.thoroughbredracing.com/articles/will-turn-out-be-high-point-super-game-gormley/ He is a multiple G1 winner. Nothing to sneeze at.
  • BeastBob via Disqus · The SA derby displayed a new running style for him. With that and his already proven frontrunning style, I think we haven't seen the high point for Gormley yet. In fact, if he draws PP1 in the Kentucky Derby, he may be running the best race of his career IMO. Fast break, possible wiring of the field; slow break and he may be coming on strong in the stretch. · 11 days ago
  • Steve Gibson via Disqus · He's a horse that will be ignored on Derby day, yet he is dangerous. The new running style will be a huge help. He'll be one of the very few multiple G1 winners routing in the race, and will probably go off somewhere near 15-1. The funniest thing of all is that if you read the comments in here and on a lot of other sites you'll find a large contingent of punters, who will hype up a horse like Irish War Cry endlessly and babble about how fantastic his Wood win was. Then the same "experts" will dismiss Gormley and the Santa Anita Derby results. Yet, if you compare their pace figs from their last races, Santa Anita Derby versus the Wood, what you find is they ran nearly identical pace figs all the way around their respective tracks. Gormley is exactly the type of non hyped horse to look for on Derby day. And IWC I'm guessing will be bet down far below where he truly should be based upon the hypsters. :-) · 12 minutes ago
You heard it here first...Battle of Midway will be in the trifecta with odds over 20-1.

I see one or more of the 3 "G"s hitting the board; Girvin, Gormley, & Gunnervera.
  • Stay Thirsty via Disqus · Yes, Gormley and Gunnevera both will. Girvin is in the bottom half. · 3 hours ago
Via Twitter- Thunder Snow is arriving at Churchill on Sunday and will be located in Barn 17.
Prime stakes underneathie is getting closer to a win. The Snunner!
Really sad that baffert was the one to get this horse- he didn't deserve him and already has forgotten what this incredible horse did for him. Wish Matz, Shug, or Motion got him. Humble, appreciative men.
For my trifecta it will be patch, hence and gunnevera. box them. What a pay out. have a good day everyone...
If you are an AP's fan and would like to hear favorable words from Baffert, then you should ask him about the best (but not so proven) 2 year old he ever had. Don't ask him about the best 3 year old he ever had and definitely don't ask him about the best older horse he ever had!!

  • ruffianlover · Nope words from baffert mean nothing now that he sold out the horse that brought immortality back to the sport and had him riding higher than he ever had before in his career · 5 hours ago

BREAKING: Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr has informed owners and trainers that he will not be available to ride for either the Kentucky Oaks or the Kentucky Derby this year, as he plans to ride at Belmont Park during that week. This is a stunning announcement becuase Irad had been expecting to get a top mount in the Kentucky Derby but one never cleared up for him.
