Anyone notice that he ran the entire length of the stretch on his left lead.
I enjoyed the derby yesterday but all you historical record fans can you help me out with a question. I was disappointed with the payouts yesterday even tho they were all the top favs finishing 1-2-3 but a $1 tri paid $101 is this the lowest trifecta payout in derby history? I went back till 2000 and the lowest I saw was like $433 but I could be wrong. Anyone else have thoughts on this ?
The old man of French racing, Cirrus Des Aigles, scores his 3rd career win in the G1 Prix Ganay beating Al Kazeem in 2nd by 1-3/4 lengths.

Gotta laugh at some of the publics reaction to yesterdays Derby.Reminds me of the great Yogi Berra and his famous Yogisms. "It is Deja Vu all over again". Please rewind the tape to last years Derby. Many said the same thing,it was a slow Derby. Before the race,i made a statement and was greeted by many mocking me. I said that this race lacked early speed. I have no idea as to how the pace figures will come up. Before the race,it was almost unanimous that this was the best Derby field in recent memory. Now it does not look so good. Just goes to show you how good AP is. With a rough wide trip,he made them all look like plodders.

  • tmallios via Disqus · You make a great point. We found out that American Pharoah is not an HRN pet,by comparing him to Shared Belief. Let them knock this horse. He ran a hole in the wind, these people are just to blind to notice it. They will jump on the bandwagon after the Preakness · 1 hour ago
  • DDAmasa via Disqus · It was a good field and they all looked like plodders, even AP who looked spent by the end. · 1 hour ago
I was hoping that he would do better in the Fort Marcy yesterday...but I think the race was too short for him. When he finally started getting going in the stretch, it was too late.
Gold Ship wins the G1 Tenno Sho (Spring) over 2 miles at Kyoto. There isn't much that can stop this horse from winning when he decides that he wants to win - unfortunately that only happens about half the time.
SUCKER BET.....ran like he was supposed to run. Not some nonsense you all wanted to read into the horse. I told you " You don't have to come up with all that stuff for American Pharoah, or Carpe Diem, or Dortmund, or Firing Line. You know why? Because they have legitimate speed.".... I gave you the triple!!!! Do me a favor and shut up now.

  • slewcrew7778 · Legitimate speed???...you MORON! Look at the fractions and final time of the Derby that your superior horses were life and death to run. Let's hear your excuses. Oh, and by the way, where did Carpe Diem finish?...Oh yeah, 2 lengths BEHIND Mubtahiij along with 10 others. Maybe now you will do us a favor and SHUT UP!... · 9 hours ago
  • Viper4 via Disqus · No, the sucker bet was American Pharoah at 5-2. You keep betting horses like that and you tap out. The last bet I made was in the Breeder's Cup in the mile. The horse was 40-1. I'd bet you couldn't find that horse with two pairs of binoculars. Even Jerry Bailey and Randy Moss stated, "How could you possibly bet that horse?" Thank you. My prior bet was Tonalist in the Belmont. He paid $11.00. I might bet three or four races a year and the biggest edge I have is knowing I'm not trying to beat California Chrome, Smarty Jones, or American Pharoah, I'm always looking for the race where I know people like you are clueless. The fact that American Pharoah won doesn't change that. It may not be for another month or a year but eventually I'll be taking your money because you are the handicapper's equivalent of the blind man who, feeling the trunk of an elephant, says, "I see. An elephant is very much like a snake." I always wondered: "How does the taste of chalk feel in the morning?" · 1 hour ago
I'm really excited... so excited... to see these three staunch competitors lining up again, and at a mile and 3/16 it will be a very competitive race. I hope to see Frosted here to, but I fear they may be training him for the Belmont Stakes. We'll see. Frosted seems to be the most qualified closer.
When he made a comeback in the Preakness he could have a better chance for Place and Show. He breezed in the final furlongs but it take to long for him. The Preakness Stakes is a really good race for Mubtaahij
  • Goblin · Mubtaahij is leaving for Europe; not going to the Preakness according to "his" twitter account. https://twitter.com/_mubtaahij · 2 hours ago
  • SSilence86 via Disqus · I think he would have been better suited at Belmont if he were to stay. I believe he is headed out to Ascot. · 2 hours ago
If as expected A.P. dusts off the Preakness field ,and heads to the Big Apple seeking the Triple Crown. Be advised that pedigree for 12F or to some, lack of it . That this will be the reason that he won't win the Crown. His chances will be gauged on the same parameters that California Chrome had to deal with. How will he handle the 3 races in 5 weeks. That is what people should be focusing on. Not if he is bred or not. He has already shown he is superior in talent to any of these horses. So beating them again will hardly be a chore. As i stated earlier,APs' chances are a bit better. The Belmont will only be his 5th race of the year.
How good will this horse be? Thoughts?
I'd like everyone thoughts on Divisidero? Winning a grade 2 on the turf in only his 3rd start and coming off a lung infection seems pretty impressive to me but I'd really like to know what everyone else thinks.
Kentucky Derby 3rd place finisher Dortmund has come out of the race in good shape. Bob Baffert tells DRF's David Grening that there is a chance that Dortmund will go in the Preakness. He will talk to owner Kaleem Shah before he makes a decision. According to DRF
  • Brian Shaw via Disqus · I hope he runs if he is %100 healthy, otherwise save him for the summer. · 2 hours ago
don't get your hopes up for a triple crown. 10 furlongs looked beyond american pharoah's limit, he was spent after 9.5 furlongs. at 12 furlongs he doesn't finish any better than california chrome.
May 3, 2015. Worked 4 furlongs in 47:00 handily. Track: Fast. Rank: 1/53
A P could easily win the TC. Off the top of my head in the last 25 years about 60% of the time one horse has one two legs. Just a matter of time, luck, and this horse IMO. He's got more muscle on his neck than most horses have on their entire body. Thus his fantastic 5W trip in only a second off the average for this race on a slow track. Add to that the race was only in doubt when they were head to head in the stretch, and AP remedied that fast. I don't know what other saw when they watched this horse race, but I saw a glimpse of a bright future.
American Pharaoh had a long trip, not a perfect trip, but he was where he had to be at the head of the stretch. Kudos to Victor and Gary Stevens for getting their mounts in position to overtake Dortmund. One question, if the three top horses were "slow" why weren't they overtaken? Seemed like nobody wanted to challenge Dortmund for the pace ('course that would have burned up their mount before the stretch); resultantly the pace was slow with Dortmund breaking the wind followed by Firing Line and American Pharaoh. The stretch one was a classic and it does look like Dortmund was fagged at the end. Frosted was running fastest at the end and looks like he may do good at Belmont.
The super screener was way off. When I saw they had carpe diem and not American pharaoh in their top likely to win category, no way I could trust following their betting strategy. uh I don't think it was hard to see carpe diem had almost no shot with his poor speed figs and post position.
Watch out for Materiality later on. He did extremely well given the circumstances. He broke terribly, lost a shoe, got dirt kicked in his face for the first time, was almost last coming around the final turn, and he still closed to get 6th as a usual frontrunner.
  • travel_vic · When this one gets some seasoning under his belt, yes, he may turn out to be an effective 3 y/o · 15 hours ago
  • myjumper21 · It's really unfortunate that he doesn't have much experience. He's very talented, but he was immature enough as it is going into the derby and then additionally getting post 3.. incredible that he was good enough to get 6th. · 3 hours ago
I think people missed Calvin more than they missed El Kabeir in the Derby.
