Zito gets Jackson Bend

Jackson Bend and jockey Jeffrey Sanchez win the Florida Stallion Stakes at Calder
Owner-breeder Fred Brei confirmed Monday that he has sold a controlling interest in Jackson Bend, the top-rated 2-year-old on Daily Racing Form's Watchmaker Watch, to Robert La Penta for an undisclosed sum. Jackson Bend will be turned over to trainer Nick Zito and shipped to his barn at Churchill Downs later in the week. He will not run in the Breeders' Cup.

Older Comments about Zito gets Jackson Bend...

I imagine that Mr. Brei got quite a handsome price out of selling Jackson Bend's controlling interest after his recent sweep of the Florida Stallion Stakes Series. I saw him run in the Dr. Fager, the Affirmed, and the In Reality Stakes and he looked pretty impressive, most particularly in the In Reality when he was passed in the stretch and showed a lot of heart by regaining the lead to get the win. Nick Zito is certainly one of the best and most experienced trainers in the business. This horse will likely only go on to improve under Zito's guidance. I'll be watching for Jackson Bend come the first Saturday in May at Churchill Downs.
