Three-time champion older female and 2010 Horse of the Year Zenyatta
will be bred to Bernardini, owners Jerry and Ann Moss said on Wednesday.
The Mosses announced the mating in a statement distributed by Lane’s End, where she is boarded in Versailles, Kentucky.
Bernardini sired Group 1 winner Biondetti, Grade 1 winner A.Z.
Warrior, and two other stakes winners and ranked second on the freshman
sire list by progeny earnings in 2010. He stands at Darley in Lexington,
which also is the home of Zenyatta’s sire, Street Cry (Ire).
The Mosses did not elaborate on the decision in the statement.
