Zenyatta Tunes Up for Hirsch

In what figures to be her final tune-up for a planned start in next Saturday's Grade I, $300,000 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes at Del Mar, Zenyatta breezed an easy 6 furlongs in 1:13.60 Friday morning at Hollywood Park.

 

Her regular jockey, Mike Smith, handled the workout for trainer John Shirreffs. The move was the fourth fastest among 13 horses at that distance and followed a bullet 1:12.40 in her previous workout last Thursday, July 22.

 

The unbeaten Zenyatta, who set a North American record of 17 straight victories in Hollywood Park's Vanity Handicap in her most recent outing June 13, has won the Hirsch the past two years.
