Zenyatta faces full field

Zenyatta faces full field
She's beaten most of them before, but undefeated Zenyatta won't be lonely in the starting gate when she defends her title in the $300,000 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes (gr. I) at Del Mar on Aug. 9.

Ten older fillies and mares were entered in the 1 1/16-mile Polytrack event, with Jerry and Ann Moss' splendid 5-year-old daughter of Street Cry drawing the far outside post. Trained by John Shirreffs, Zenyatta will have regular rider Mike Smith aboard as she goes for her 12th successive victory while packing co-high weight of 123 pounds under the race's new allowance conditions. The Hirsch was previously a handicap race.

Nine were entered to face Zenyatta, but a few defected as expected, including Patricia's Gem, Briecat, and Hot n' Dusty. Not much speed in there now. Champagne Eyes is the likely pacesetter. Anabaa's Creation will probably stalk, and Zenyatta will roll from the back like she always does.
Couldn't agree more! Seems like Zenyatta has already produced her best races. Still solid and well managed but perhaps not an automatic as she was last year. Why else would 10 fillies and mares run with her today?
She better do some remarkable things between now and December 31st or it'll be Rachel in a romp in that race.
