Zenyatta Sparkles in Hollywood Drill

Zenyatta sizzled in a sharp 6-furlong workout in 1:12.40 Thursday morning at Hollywood Park in her preparation for an attempt to win her third straight Clement L. Hirsch Stakes at Del Mar on Saturday, August 7.

From his Hollywood Park barn, the always-understated trainer John Shirreffs called it "a regular work," but did eventually say it was "very nice."

On the other hand, regular rider Mike Smith, who was aboard for the work, said, "She worked dynamite. It was one of her best in a while. She did it really, really well. I am very, very pleased."

Zenyatta worked in company with stablemates Sarbonne and Green Cat. Sarbonne supplied the pace to the turn where Green Cat became the pacemaker. Green Cat was given a time of 1:13. Sarbonne was not given a workout time.

Shirreffs confirmed that the Hirsch remains on Zenyatta's schedule for a next start. The 6-year-old daughter of Street Cry, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Moss, is 17-for-17 in her career and has won the Eclipse Award in 2008 and 2009 as America's champion older female
