Wolfsons and Affirmed to be Honored by ThoroFan

ThoroFan announces its inaugural ThoroFan Awards Brunch. The event will be held on January 20, 2013, the Sunday morning after the Eclipse Awards at Gulfstream Park.

 

Two awards will be given at the brunch. The ThoroFan Award will be given to Mrs. Patrice Wolfson, her late husband, Louis, and their great race horse, Affirmed. This award is given to the individual(s) or entity that has contributed significantly to helping energize the racing fan base. The second award will be the Fan of the Year Award given by Horse Racing Nation.

 

Net proceeds from the brunch will be shared between ThoroFan and a Thoroughbred retirement program. The event will begin at 9:00 a.m. with registration. The brunch begins at 9:30 a.m. with the awards program beginning at 10:00. Tickets which include the buffet brunch, Gulfstream Park program and a reserved seat for the day at the races are priced at $60.00 each. Tables of eight can be reserved. Key note speakers are Hall of Fame Trainer, Nick Zito and Michael Beychok, 2012 winner of the NTRA National Handicapping Contest. Other racing luminaries will be added to list as the event approaches.

 

"This is an event that recognizes the importance of the fan to our sport" said Michael Amo, Chairman of ThoroFan.

 

Tickets can be purchased on line at www.thorofan.com/awards  and at the Gulfstream Park box office. By mail, make checks payable to ThoroFan and send to 16 Summit Ave, Central Valley, New York, 10917 . Checks must be received by January 11, 2013. Note on your check, "for ThoroFan brunch".

heard a story, probably apochryphal, that the Wolfson's noticed one yearling who always beat all the others at every opportunity and watched him carefully. Were rewared with a great one. I asked Laz Barrera if he would sign a shot after he dusted off Bid in the Jockey Club Gold Cup and phrased it "I would like for you to sign this showing one of your better ones." "Better!" he exclaimed, "I would take a barn full of them!"
